Borderlands 4 introduces first DLC Vault Hunter C4SH, releasing in early 2026

Borderlands 4's next chapter for Borderlands 4 is already on the horizon.

Gearbox Software has revealed the first post-launch playable character for Borderlands 4, with a brand-new Vault Hunter called C4SH set to arrive in early 2026. The announcement was made during Tokyo Game Show 2025 on Sunday (28 September), where the studio also confirmed the character’s role in the upcoming expansion Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned.

C4SH joins Borderlands 4 in first story expansion

C4SH is described as a Vault Hunter whose entire theme revolves around chance. Dice rolls, card flips, and even bullets spinning in a chamber shape his personality and style. In the teaser trailer, Gearbox presented him with a mix of cowboy flair and grim reaper undertones, making him stand out from the existing roster.

The new character will headline Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, the first major story pack planned for Borderlands 4. The expansion introduces a fresh zone within Kairos, complete with new main missions, side quests, cosmetics, and gear. C4SH is the first of two Vault Hunters scheduled to arrive in post-launch content, as part of Gearbox’s broader roadmap for the looter shooter.

First major story pack Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned announced

The story pack is scheduled for release in early 2026, though Gearbox has not confirmed an exact date. While pricing has yet to be announced, the DLC is included in the Super Deluxe Edition of Borderlands 4. A standalone purchase option is expected, but details remain unconfirmed.

The teaser video hints at a darker tone for the expansion, with Gearbox previously suggesting that future Borderlands 4 content will lean into bloodier, more horror-inspired territory. Players can expect multiple missions set in the new Kairos zone alongside rewards to expand their arsenals.

Gearbox also confirmed that another Vault Hunter is planned for release later in the post-launch cycle, alongside balance updates and additional buffs. Fans can anticipate more information as the 2026 launch of Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned approaches.
