Team Liquid, Virtus.pro, and Vici Gaming have been eliminated from DreamLeague Season 29

Another elimination will take place later today.

The first lower bracket round of the Dota 2 DreamLeague Season 29 Playoffs took place last night with three more teams exiting the competition, as Virtus.pro, Vici Gaming, and Team Liquid faced elimination.

They leave the tournament in 9th–12th place, each taking home a US$30,000 consolation prize and 375 EPT Points. Another team is set to join them later today, as Natus Vincere and PlayTime face off in the fourth elimination series of the round. Both teams will also be playing for the final direct invite slot at the Dota 2 Esports World Cup (EWC).

How the DreamLeague Season 29 Playoffs eliminations unfolded

Xtreme Gaming seems back in form after eliminating Team Liquid

The biggest upset of the night was Team Liquid’s elimination at the hands of Xtreme Gaming. The series panned out into an intense three-map showdown, ending with an ultra late game 74 minutes battle that eventually saw Xtreme sealing the win.

Coming into this series, Team Liquid was touted as the favourites, being one of the most consistent teams this season. However, they struggled throughout the Playoffs stage, having already been knocked down to the lower bracket by PARIVISION in yet another close 2-1 series. This early loss and below-par DreamLeague Season 29 finish marks a sharp downturn in their form.

However, Xtreme Gaming themselves are a difficult team to read. The current TI runner-up have delivered fluctuating performances this season, suffering early eliminations at some events while securing top finishes at others. While this particular result could signal another strong run for the team, their consistency remains in question.

Virtus.pro’s confirms direct invite to the Dota 2 EWC despite elimination

Virtus.pro had put up a respectable 2-1 fight and nearly eliminated Tundra Esports after taking the opening game. But as expected, the powerhouse side locked in when it mattered and comfortably completed the reverse sweep. Despite the loss, VP secured just enough points to make it into the Dota 2 EWC.

BetBoom Team dismantles Vici Gaming

The final elimination of the round saw BetBoom Team defeat Vici Gaming 2-1.

BetBoom still have a point to prove following their victory at PGL Wallachia Season 8, as doubts remain over whether they can maintain consistent results. This win is certainly a step in the right direction, but they’ll have to pull off a long lower-bracket run to achieve any meaningful results.

Meanwhile, Vici Gaming’s elimination was expected to some extent. But beyond missing out on additional prize money and the prestige of a higher placement, the team has little to worry about as they have already qualified for the Dota 2 EWC after winning their region’s early qualifier.

What comes next is a series full of stakes, as NAVI and PlayTime is set to square off in the final series of this first Playoffs round, set to occur later today. Both teams will be playing for a direct invite to the Dota 2 EWC.

We will also see the frontrunners duke it out in the upper bracket as Team Falcons take on PARIVISION and Team Spirit face off against Aurora Gaming afterwards.
