As MDL Chengdu Major inches closer to the end, some of the fan-favorite teams were knocked out of contention.
After a full day rest, teams returned to compete on the main stage for MDL Chengdu Major in front of a live audience at the Chengdu Century City New International Convention & Exhibition Center.
The day kicked off with the elimination series between Alliance and ex-Alliance, Team Liquid. Despite Alliance being able to draft some of their signature heroes, Team Liquid played out the game with near-flawless execution and shut down their opponents without much contest. The second match was even more heavily one-sided and once again Team Liquid was on fire, extinguishing Alliance's hopes for a top placement at the event with their 2:0 sweep over them.
Facing off in front of the home crowd, the Summit 11 Minor championship team, Invictus Gaming, took on the South American sweethearts, beastcoast. Hector ‘K1’ Antonio Rodriguez's Chaos Knight became virtually unstoppable in the first game and took the first game of the series. In the second game iG absolutely shellacked beastcoast in just 23 minutes, tying up the series. Down to the wire, the deciding game started off even between the two teams. After a few pick-offs around the map, iG started to take an overwhelming lead until about 22 minutes in when they nearly lost it all over the course of the next five minutes when beastcoast took an incredible teamfight and started to reclaim their lost ground. Unfortunately, a bad initiation from the SA's would prove to be a terrible mistake and allowed for iG to regain their footing, take Roshan and head for the base to end the game in their favor.
The day ended with another series for Team Liquid as they went head to head with the revamped roster of Evil Geniuses. Armed with Nightstalker's vision and a fast-paced game EG crushed the Europeans without hesitation. Although the start of the second game was fairly even, things didn't go much better for Team Liquid things were quickly over for the Europeans.
The last two days of the playoffs will see the last of the teams duking it out for the first Major title and trophy of the new DPC 2019-2020 season.
