ELEAGUE Season 2: Group B recap
The group stage action of ELEAGUE Season 2 continued with Group B, where Virtus.pro and NiP secured their ELEAGUE playoffs spots.
Virtus.pro secured the first pistol round thanks to their solid defence on the B bombsite. The Poles didn't make huge mistakes in the following two rounds and gained an early 3-0 advantage as Counter-Terrorists. In the first gun round Echo Fox managed to plant the bomb on B and defended it well to win their first round. Having enough money, Virtus.pro immediately bought rifles and defeated Echo Fox in the 5th round to reset the T economy. From that point, everything went horribly for Echo Fox. They weren't able to win a single round until the final round of the first half and Jarosław "pashaBiceps" Jarząbkowski's triple kill in that particular round didn't help them either.
Virtus.pro won the second pistol round as well and by winning the next round they secured the map with a 16-1 score line.
Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund showed he'd be the MVP of this matchup by securing the pistol round for his team with a triple kill. NiP managed to secure four more rounds as the T side to make it 5-0. G2 finally got on board with a round victory in the sixth round and Cédric "RpK" Guipouy's triple kill in the next round gave them economical advantage. Playing with three AKs and two tech 9s, NiP planted the bomb on A. Alesund, in a 1v2 post-plant situation, clutched the round to complete his ace. Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom's aggression resulted him grabbing three kills won the single round for G2 in the remainder of the half, making the score 12-3 in favour of the Swedes at halftime.
G2 secured the second pistol round and the following anti-eco to keep their dreams alive, but Richard "Xizt" Landström's triple kill in a full eco round reset their economy. Taking advantage of the broken Terrorist economy, NiP won the remaining rounds and closed the map out 16-5.
Starting the winners' match as the CT side, Virtus.pro secured the first pistol round as a result of their successful defence on the B bombsite. The Poles were suddenly 5-0 ahead thanks to two flawless anti-ecos and Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski's triple kills in both 4th and 5th rounds. The Polish team secured another three rounds before NiP finally got on board with a round victory. Unfortunately for NiP, Jarosław "pashaBiceps" Jarząbkowski got a triple kill in the 10th round to reset the Swedish economy. After losing the eco round, NiP played flawlessly in the 12th round to make it 10-2. Two of the remaining three rounds also went NiP's way, making the score 11-4 in favour of Virtus.pro at the halftime.
NiP started off strong in the second half with two round victories but VP didn't let the margin melt by winning the 18th round and making the score 12-6. The Swedes won a round after losing two more but the VP victory in the following round broke their economy. Unable to put in a decent buy, NiP couldn't prevent VP from closing out the map 16-7.
The elimination match of Group B saw G2 taking on Echo Fox. G2, starting as the CT side, secured the first pistol round and played solidly in the following rounds to secure an early advantage. Taking advantage of the CT side, the French-Belgian squad grabbed 10 of the first 11 rounds. Echo Fox finally managed to secure two rounds with Shazeb "ShahZaM" Khan killing three G2 members in the second one to make it 11-3 but the final round of the first half went G2's way.
Richard "shox" Papillon's triple kill in the second pistol round made a comeback almost impossible for Echo Fox. G2 defeated their opponents in every single round of the second half to grab the map victory with a 16-3 score line.
Dust2 saw an identital outcome. Papillon and Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom were in charge as G2 crushed Echo Fox with a 16-2 score line.
The decider match saw NiP against G2. Nuke was played once more in ELEAGUE as NiP's map pick. The Swedes started off strong to the map as the T side and were leading 10-5 after the first half. G2, unable to play as well as NiP did as Terrorists, managed to grab just three rounds in the second half before NiP close out the map 16-8.
Train was fairly balanced thanks to Richard "shox" Papillon's efforts but Papillon and his team couldn't prevent NiP from leading 9-6 at half time. Cédric "RpK" Guipouy joined Papillon in the battle against Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg and the Ninjas but the French duo's efforts proved insufficient, as NiP bested them and won the map 16-10 to secure their spot on ELEAGUE playoffs.
