Axiom-Acer partnership ends due to GSTL discontinuation

The bronze finalists from GSTL 1 and the winners of the second season will no longer stay together, says Axiom manager Olivia Wong. As GSTL will likely not continue in the new year, however, the two teams see no reason to extend their cooperation.

Axiom-Acer (or AXA in short) was established mid January 2013 for the purpose of GSTL Season 1. The joint roster performed exceptionally in this first season, finishing second in the group stage and third after the playoffs, finishing behind Incredible Miracle and MVP. Come the second season, AXA's play was on a whole different level and they managed to finish first in the group stage with unparalleled 7-1 as well as win the whole tournament, beating AZUBU 2-1 in the grand final.

Although one of the most successful joint rosters in SC2 history, this partnership now comes to an end as AXA will likely not have a tournament to compete in. At the moment of this newspost, the remaining eSF teams that can participate in a potential GSTL 2014 are only StarTale and Azubu and a new edition of the team league seems unlikely.

From Olivia Wong's official statement:

"As more news about Korean teams disbanding comes forward, it’s clear GSTL will not continue into the new year. Since competing in GSTL was the sole purpose of Axiom’s partnership with Acer, the AxiomAcer partnership will end. The end of the alliance was agreed upon by both parties and we end our partnership amicably. We want to extend our warmest thanks to Team Acer for allowing their players to join us in the GSTL and their support throughout 2013."
