IEM gives green light to its eighth season this week as it flies to Shanghai. The eight winners of the qualifiers as well as four WCS invites have already been allocated to their groups and await the winners of the earlier stages.
A total of 28 players will fly to China July 25-28 to compete in the opening $25,000 IEM Season 8 event. Twelve of them are automatically advanced to the second stage of the tournament - a group play in double elimination format - by the power of being qualifier winners or invites based on WCS points. The remaining 16 will fight their way through two double elimination brackets, the top two of which will make it to said group play. The entire tournament will finish with an 8-man single elimination playoffs phase, the winner of which will claim $10,000.
