Woongjin secure SPL grand final spot through STX all-kill

The roster of Woongjin Stars deservedly earns the Proleague grand final seed after showing impeccable performance all season. This will be the first grand final for the team in seven years.

After being in the top three of every round so far, Woongjin were in the lead of Proleague with four whole victories more than the runner-ups from KT Rolster and so the boys under Light's captainship knew they had quite the margin for error stepping into the penultimate week of regular season competition. To their luck, no errors were made and Woongjin dove right into the SPL grand final on the back of a 4-0 against STX Soul.

Woongjin led in with reigning GSL champion Soulkey who disposed of Trap in the first game and followed with their traditionally strong Protoss line-up of Free, sOs and Flying, throwing literally their very best at SouL. STX too had aimed at early-series victories by lining up Dear and Classic next to trap but neither of them could triumph and STX were quickly put down three maps.

Not even Season 1 champion, GSL runner-up and STX ace Innovation could save his team from full ruin. In a closing game against Flying, Innovation tapped out for the 0-4, making Woongjin's dream a reality.

This will be Stars' first Proleague grand finals since February 2005 when they won against now-defunct WeMade FOX.

In the second match for the day, SK Telecom continued to slalom between wins and losses and after the clucth 3-4 against KHAN last week, Boxer's team scored a 4-2 to the mathematically eliminated CJ Entus. Rain, PartinG and Fantasy worked as a trio to deal a game-turning punch after Bisu's loss in game on, making it easy for BeSt to ultimately close it in game six against Bong.

This victory ties SK Telecom with #2 in the rankings KT Rolster as both teams are now at 21 victories and +17 points. KT Rolster, however, are a match behind and will aim at increasing the lead as they face CJ Entus on June 22nd.
