The DreamHack Stockholm winner and the Terran youngster advanced to Code S today after beating the Code A group stage, dropping just one game each.
Placed in one of the most stacked round of 32 Code S groups with Life, PartinG and Last, Leenock saw an early exit from the competition by finishing third in the group and falling down to Code A. Although most predictions indicated a quick recovery, the talented Zerg tasted a 0-2 defeat by Bbyong in the third round of the bracket stage and was down to his last chance to regain his Code S status.
Maru had an almost analogical experience. The young Terran was eliminated third in equally intense Ro32, group of Flash, Soulkey and Bboong, fell to the very same Code A bracket Leenock was in and also lost to Bbyong to find himself in the very same Code A group Leenock was in.
Seeing how their fall was strikingly similar, their joint rise only made sense. With scores of 3-1, Leenock and Maru left the trio of Bunny, DongRaeGu and Ruin in Code A and are certain to compete in the next season of WCS Korea premier league.
Group B of the challenger circuit will be played tomorrow at 11:10 CET (see line-up below).
