MYM.DinOt: The Young Star Speaks

After spending some time as xLo.DinOt the young Chilean player joined forces with Meet Your Makers to show the world that he is no joke.

April Fools Day '08 the TeamLiquid Star League is announce, a tournament with a 10,000 USD prize pool and a competitor list that reads as the Whos Who of the foreign world. Many big names reside there such as Mondragon, Draco and Strelok must now compete in the ladder stage to qualify for the actual TSL. Though the competition was fierce a few less known player slipped through the ladders stage and came to be in the TSL, one of those players was DinOt...

A Road to Glory..

Hello DinOt, please give us your basic information. Name, Age and Location?
Cristóbal Lledó. 16. Santiago, Chile

Thanks. Since not many people know a lot about your StarCraft career tell us a little bit about that. How did you get started in this great game?
When i was very young my big brother showed me Brood War. It seemed cool to me so I started playing at very low level because I was very young. I first started playing on a Chilean server, though sometimes on west and WGTour. My first important team was (CHILE)I then went to heros, blank, afm, inf. and other teams that didn't last very long.

After that where did you feel your Brood War career going? After the clans I mentioned I joined xLo. (Editors note: not Excello, xLo. is an old team that did very well in their day) and began playing there with players such as Strelok, Fenix and Castro. I cannot remember if they were there when I joined but they sure helped me grow as a StarCraft player.

So being in xLo. was a step up from your former clans?
Yes, though uT) was very important to me and I learned a lot there, in xLo. I was part of a top tier team that won in Clan Wars and Leagues. It was very nice to be able to participate in these events and win. I also felt that it was a strong team, with Bartar as a trusting leader.

After working with xLo. in 2007 and early 2008 you made the move to MYM. Were you scouted by Meet Your Makers or did you have to go through some trial games first?
I had to go through the trials since the leadership at MYM did not know much about me, though I am sure that my old teammate Strelok played a hand in my joining MYM. I played a few games against MYM.Gentleman and showed the leaders some of my replays against White-Ra and Strelok, they seemed impressed so I got an invite.

Soon after joining MYM the TSL started, when you heard about it how did you feel your chances were against the other players?
I was nervous for my first games, but nothing that would affect my gameplay. I knew that if I played the best I could that I could at least reach the top eight players if not the finals.

Though you are relatively unknown compared to your first opponent, Idra, you came out and beat him first thing. How did this affect your gameplay facing a well known player like him?
Well like I said I was very nervous but it was not enough to affect my gameplay greatly. There were many great players who entered the tournament and I knew that my chances of winning it were low, so I kept my goal at a spot in the top eight.

Next you face fuSion.Rondo in one of the most exciting series of the TeamLiquid Star League. Was this series any harder for you than the one with Idra?
Same with the games against Idra, I knew that anyone could win this thing so I played my best. But for some reason I was not getting nervous at all in any of my games, Rondo played really well and it was a hard won victory.

Well thanks for taking the time to sit down with me and do an interview. As a final question: What does the future hold for DinOt the StarCraft player?
Your welcome it was my pleasure. Right now I am just playing this game for fun and as long as it is still for fun and I have time I will play. I plan on at least trying SC2, and if I have enough free time laying around I will definitely try and play it competitively. But who knows what the future holds.

A Young Star

As the interview winded down I realized that DinOt is one of those players who is the future of StarCraft. A young guy who find Brood War to be fun even though it is a ten year old game, it is players like him that can keep Brood War alive. He also wanted me to note that he is thoroughly enjoying his teammates, the management and the overall atmosphere at MYM. Keep your eyes on DinOt he is quickly becoming on of the best Zerg players around.
