Overwatch beta will be used to trial Battle.net voice chat

Blizzard is not a company to just keep repeating what they have been doing for years. An example of this, is their plans to set up a Battle.net voice chat.

For a while now, more and more games come with integrated voice chat to allow for better communication in teamplay. Games like H1Z1, Counter Strike and Dota2 get that much better because of the presence of voice chat. Blizzard fans have, for the most part, been forced to use external VoIP applications. But this is about to change, because Blizzard is going to take the next step towards a Battle.net-wide voice chat application.

Blizzard had mentioned the possibility of voice chat for Overwatch, and it was shown in practice during the livestreams of last week. They have now made public officially that all participants in the closed beta will be able to test out the Battle.net voice chat.

Not a lot of extra information has been shared so far, with the FAQ section only mentioning what people should not be expecting:

Q: If I'm not in the Overwatch beta test, can I still test voice chat?
A: Battle.net voice chat will only be available for testing in the Overwatch beta. Players are welcome to sign up for the beta here.

Q: Will voice chat support other Blizzard games as well? If so, when?
A: With voice chat still in its early development and testing stages, it's too early to say which Blizzard games will be supported and when.

Q: How will voice chat work in the Overwatch beta test?
A: We'll have further details to share once the beta begins.

Q: Should I see some sort of change with my Battle.net desktop app?
A: No, this is just be an addition to the app's DLLs.
