Riot’s esports plans for 2XKO have been unveiled.
To cap off a year of big announcements for 2XKO, Riot Games has published a new developer video to finally reveal its release window on consoles. The League of Legends fighting game will officially hit PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S sometime in January 2026, following its launch on PC in early access earlier this October.
In the same video, Riot also dived into its plans for upcoming 2XKO esports events–which won’t involve professional leagues run by Riot itself. Watch the video below:
2XKO’s 2026 esports plans outlined by Riot
Riot Games is officially bringing 2XKO to consoles in January 2026, roughly three months after the game launched on PC in early access. The 2v2 tag-team fighting game has players compete with iconic characters from the League of Legends universe, and currently includes 12 officially-announced characters in its playable roster.
While that finally gives console owners an answer to the often-asked question of 2XKO’s PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S release date, Riot also opted to answer another burning question posed by the community: what are its plans for 2XKO’s esports scene?
To that end, Riot is opting against running its own professional leagues for 2XKO esports. With multiple community tournaments already having popped up worldwide, Riot is instead choosing to support existing tournament organisers in 2026. That means the company will help boost 2XKO tournaments’ funding, marketing and prize pools moving forward.
All in all, 2XKO’s 2026 Competitive Series will feature five Majors and 15 Challenger events, coming up to 20 tournaments supported by Riot. These tournaments will be spread out across the game’s live-service seasons, with Majors being the highest peaks of competition. Challengers will be regional open events.
2XKO’s 2026 esports activities kick off with the following events:
- Frosty Faustings: January 29–February 1
- Genesis X3: February 13–15
- Texas Showdown March 27–29
- Viennality: March 28–29
These tournaments will also be supported by a new series of skins called Frame Perfect, which will launch in 2XKO Season 1. The skins will help to fund the tournaments’ prize pools and production going into 2026, and will return during the Major events.
