Tempo Storm outlasts Team L5 and wins Power League Season 2

When you think of top Korean Heroes teams, you probably think of MVP Black or Tempest (now Tempo Storm).  But even though Tempo Storm wound up winning the 2nd season of Power League, it is clearly time to add Team L5 to that list.  Korea is producing world class Heroes of the Storm teams non-stop - does any other region stand a chance against Korea at BlizzCon??

It was just a month ago that Tempest and MVP Black were putting on what many call the greatest Heroes of the Storm esports series of all time in the Grand Finals of the Summer Global Championships.  But if the finals of this latest Power League is any indication, viewers are in for a treat any time two top tier Korean Heroes of the Storm teams meet in a Grand Finals.
Two things to note: It looks like Jaehyun has left Team L5, while Lockdown has become the primary bruiser player for Tempest, with Dami playing some ranged heroes like Sylvanas in addition to Greymane.

Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties with one of the Tempo Storm player's computer, there was a 2.5 hour delay and Game 1 had to be restarted.  Tempest won Game 1 convincingly, leading throughout and never seriously been threatened.

Game 2

Imagine you are Tempo Storm.  It's Infernal Shrines, Kerrigan is crazy good this map and Dami is crazy good on the hero.  You have the opportunity to pick Kerrigan.  Why wouldn't you?  Instead, Tempo decides that Li Ming and ETC are what they need.  Honestly, I have no idea why Team L5 let Tempo Storm have the chance to get Kerrigan, and I'm even more puzzled as to why Tempo Storm didn't jump at the chance.
To make things worse, Tempo Storm also didn't bother to ban Tassadar during the 2nd ban phase, while Team L5 was smart enough to ban Kerrigan.  The resulting Sonya-Rehgar-Tassadar combo was too much for Tempo Storm to handle, falling and tieing the series 1-1.

Game 3

One of the scariest things in Heroes is undoubtedly a Greymane backed up by Tyrael for godly Sanctifications.  You might ask why Team L5 didn't ban Tyrael, and the simple answer is they would have then coughed up Tassadar to go with Greymane, Sonya and Rehgar - also not a winning strategy. Team L5's strategy in this game was to win hard with Zagara in the early game and snow ball it from there, but Zagara getting caught a little before the bottom temple phase proved to be the dagger - Tempo Storm quickly turned the game around after that, and never looked back in a fairly dominant win.

Game 5

Tied at 2-2 going into game 5, the Abathur/Zera/Greymane composition from Tempo Storm was certainly interesting and got its fair share of kills, but they lagged behind in structures the entire game.  Thus when a bad team fight led to Tempo Storm being down a man, Team L5 simply pressed the issue by threatening a keep without getting overly aggressive and committing to it.  Unfortunately, the same could not be said for Tempo Storm's Greymane, who was caught being overly aggressive while ETC was still dead, sealing Tempo Storm's fate in Game 5.

Game 6

Tempo Storm returns to running the aggressive dive composition with Tyrael and Greymane with the series on the line.  This time however, Team L5 plays around it much better than they did in Game 3 and they take a commanding structural lead in this game on match point. Tempo Storm isn't the defending World Champions for nothing, however, and a successful sneaky boss play leads into a curse which results in a totally new game.  In the end, great santicifications and some brilliant Greymane play by Dami is too much for Team L5 to handle, and Tempo Storm is able to force Game 7.

Game 7

Illidan is no longer the terror in competitive play he once was.  But c'mon Team L5 - you cannot give up Illidan when the enemy team has Rehgar and Tassadar, while the only hero on your team that is good vs. Illidan is Sonya.  Unlike the previous six games, which featured good to stellar play from both teams, this one is one sided from the start, ending in 15 minutes and thus, crowning Tempo Storm the Power League Season 2 champions!

What does this mean for Super League?

No team qualified for BlizzCon as a result of this series (the top 2 teams in Super League qualify for BlizzCon).  Since Tempo Storm already qualified for the next season of Super League by winning Super League last season, Team L5 qualifies for Super League as a result of being the 2nd place finisher in Power League.

With three world class teams, next season's Super League promises to be the best Korean competition in Heroes of the Storm...ever.  Since only the top 2 may qualify for BlizzCon, the stakes for the losers' finals will be enormous, as a team that is almost certainly a top five team in the world will be eliminated without getting the chance to show the world how good they really are.  Stay tuned for more information about when Season 3 of Super League will start.
