Community Spotlight: Blizzard fan compiles data on future hero scaling

A battle.net forum user by the name of Sedition published an informative guide and spreadsheet on hero scaling coming up in a future patch.

In a recent blog post, Blizzard published changes coming up on the PTR to death timers and hero stat scaling through a game. You can find more information about their blog post here.

Blizzard forum user Sedition tasked himself with finding the info on the generally vague promise of “changed stat scaling”. He published his findings, shedding some much needed light on the upcoming changes. While the new system will have all characters have the same stats at Level 20 as they did previously, the calculations for stats from levels 1-19 are being drastically changed. He says, “Currently, HP, auto attack, and all abilities have a base value and an amount they gain per level. On the PTR, these two are rolled together into an algorithm and levels instead increase HP/attack/ability damage by 4% per level.”

So what does this mean?

In a nutshell, this means all level advantages stats-wise will be equal (note – this doesn’t have anything to do with talents, just stat numbers). Each stat total will now be a percentage of the level 20 amount, rather than a base number and a bonus per level. Sedition goes on to write, “A 2 level difference has similar power advantages at all levels. Currently, a level 6 team is roughly 20% more powerful than a level 4 team whereas a level 19 team is only about 9% more powerful than a level 17 team. This makes a 2 level difference always about an 8.5% difference, regardless of when it occurs. This prevents you from essentially losing the game in the first 3-4 minutes. You have a fighting chance to come back.”

These changes, while initially intimidating to look at, are extremely important for all players of the game regardless of play level. Each hero will be different because of these changes, and how teams go about advantages will shift because of this. Sedition has also published a detailed spreadsheet, showing all heroes previous scaling compared to their new scaling.
