These eight qualifiers beat out every major name on the continent, performing well amidst criticism of technical difficulties and ultra-lucky plays.
The final batch of Tavern Heroes and high HCT point holders have been whittled down into America’s next Hearthstone World Championship hopefuls. These 8 skilled players (collectively representing the USA, Canada, Brazil and Chile) will all move onto the Summer Championships, to be held on September 17-18th.
Connection issues plagued the series throughout; the most notable was when HotMEOWTH disconnected in a one-sided match against RoofTrellen. We also saw the harsh RNG victory we’d been fearing for a while, when Canadian qualifier Monsanto’s luck with Yogg-Saron prompted a look of sheer despair from Dude7597. All four of these competitors ultimately qualified, but these games raise major issues that need to be addressed urgently before the HCT year is out.
Mischievous player antics were also a big part of this tourney. Despite having more than enough Freezemage damage in hand to win the day, Dude7597 dragged out his qualifying match for an extra turn by employing the absolute worst bluff in this game’s short history. Meanwhile Rooftrellen showed us all why Hearthstone needs more victory dances, when his N’Zoth Paldin overcame its Murloc rival and Ashbringered HotMEOWTH down a peg.
The Prelims mark the final event where a single season’s worth of points can be used to qualify for Blizzcon. In the Last Call Invitational, the top 8 players in points from this HCT year will play for the remaining empty spots in the World Championship.
