Corrupted Hogger and Muster for Battle on steroids are the most recent revealed cards from Whispers

After the initial batch of six shown cards, including the legendary C’Thun, Blizzard are spoiling the new set one card at a time. Since last night, two new cards have been shown.

Stand Against Darkness is a new Paladin spell, which can be described as [card]Muster for Battle[/card]’s big brother. For 5 mana, it puts five 1/1 tokens into the battlefield. On second look, though, doubtful this card will see much play. The power of Muster was that it filled the curve of the class perfectly and gave it powerful entry into the midgame. The tokens could be protected with the many strong 4-drops that Paladin possesses. SAD, on the other hand, might almost be too expensive. A 5-mana spell, it plays right into every class’ board clear to the point that even a [card]Whirlwind[/card] negates it. Its obvious synergy with [card]Quartermaster[/card] is also off curve – on turn 6, quarter master will float 1 mana, making for suboptimal turn.

Next, we have Hogger, Doom of Elwynn, the corrupted version of, you guessed it, our good old friend [card]Hogger[/card]. While the original version is not seeing much play, the corrupted one just might. On taking damage, Doom of Elwynn will summon a 2/2 Gnoll with taunt, an effect that is much more controllable – and repeatable – than the “end of turn” trigger of the vanilla Hogger. It’s 6/6 stats for 7 mana keep it outside [card]Big Game Hunter[/card] range and make it a bit more durable than its 4/4 predecessor.
