Following a short delay, the HCL Season 2 will resume from February 22nd-23rd.
Retaining many of Hearthstone’s most celebrated competitors within its surviving lineup, the $10,000 invitational’s quarter final round will commence on Monday, with its semi-finals, final and 3rd place decider to follow the day after. Aside from boasting a sizeable prize pool and top player line-up to boot, the HCL Season 2 will also serve as an essential precursor for this month’s biggest tournament; PGL’s Tavern Tales.
As per the predictions of our ‘HCL Group of death’ poll, last week saw HCL Season 1 finalist Stanislav Cifka dominate his opponents without a single defeat, whilst 2015 champion David “Dog” Caero found himself knocked out early after two fairly decisive losses. Cifka will now face off against World Champion Sebastian “Ostkaka” Engwall, with familiar player names Thijs “Thijs” Molendijk, Sebastian “Xixo” Bentert, Pavel Beltukov, Jeffrey “Sjow” Brusi, Jon “Orange” Westberg and Jan “Ekop” Palys filling out the rest of the bracket.
Set around a best of 5 Conquest format, highlights from the HCL Season 2 group stage included Pavel coming back from a 0-2 loss, a last minute [card]Swipe[/card] that helped Sjow secure his place in the playoofs, and Ekop grabbing a life-saving [card]Vitality Totem[/card] from a [card]Piloted Shredder[/card] that ultimately helped him take his final win.
The HCL Season 2 playoffs will stream tomorrow at 17:00 CET from the HSCLeague Twitch channel, with Gnimsh, Raven and Sottle casting.
