Blizzard on the new standard: No current plans to do reprints

Goodbye, terror of many metagames

What’s gone is gone, at least until Blizzard change their current policy.

In card games where format rotation is the accepted norm, card reprints are an often sight. Classes – or colors, if you come from Magic – need their staples to not disappear in rotation limbo, so they are re-released in the relevant set, either verbatim or with a changed name but preserved effect.

This will not happen to Hearthstone, game’s developers confirmed on Twitter. The company announced last night the new “Standard” format and were on point answering related questions. Until a drastic change of policy is accepted, the cards that get pushed out with the arrival of the spring expansion will not return. This means say goodbye to [card]Loatheb[/card], [card]Dr Boom[/card], [card]Mad Scientist[/card] and many more, possibly forever.

The good news, though, is that all the card that rotate will be disenchantable for normal dust value. Yes, that includes not just the GvG cards but also the ones from the Curse of Naxxramas expansion. Normally, cards from adventures are not dustable, but those who plan to exclusively play the new format can destroy them to get some valuable currency to build their standard collection.
