It took two months for the runners-up to catch on.
Thijs “ThijsNL” Molendijk was the absolute king of the GosuRankings this year. Long months of consistency had the G2 player break multiple records, finally peaking at 1453 points before his loss to Ostkaka in the semi finals of HWC 2015.
Then came League of Explorers and caught ThijsNL unprepared. The player who enjoyed the ridiculous 74 percent and 86 percent win rate in September and October, respectively, was now struggling to put up decent results. His November record dipped to 2-5 and so far December is not spectacular either, at exactly 50 percent.
Of course, ThijsNL was so far ahead of the competition – at one point more than 200 points ahead – that it took a while for the rest to catch-up but it has finally happened. Awaking from his autumn slumber, the victorious HCL run of David “Dog” Caero together with his excellent results at StarLadder i-League and the long months of strong showings in the spring and summer put him at the coveted #1 spot.
It’s a close race at the top, however, if there was any. Dog is just one point ahead of ThijsNL, which is virtually nothing. Just eight points behind them are world champion Sebastian “Ostkaka” Engwall and Stanislav Cifka, both tied at 1258. Ostkaka and Cifka are both to play in the upcoming WCA 2015, so the dynamic of the top four can, and will change drastically.
