Having gathered the brightest talents of Korean Hearthstone, Koo All Killers was already the strongest team in the region, but they’re one step away from breaking records.
Created in May this year, Koo All Stars brought together some of the best free agents in the country. Mostly representing the new generation of Hearthstone in South Korea, the roster included names like Palmblad, LookSam, and Flurry but also some old-timers like Surrender and Seulsiho.
At the time of the formation, four of its five players had already made waves in the scene, occupying the top four places in the first ever OGN Korea Masters. In season 2, Koo once again took the top spots with Surrender finishing first and Seulsiho coming second. For Seulsiho, this was also his second OGN grand final in a row.
Now, Koo All Killers might just secure their third OGN championship. Earlier today, the semi finals of the third season were played out and Jung Soo “Surrender” Kim prevailed 4-2 over newcomer Jjangnara for his second grand final in a row. Should Surrender succeed in the concluding match on August 12, he’ll also be one of the two players in Hearthstone’s history to ever defend an offline title, the other being James “Firebat” Kostesich and his double Gfinity championships.
Surrender’s opponent will be another new name on the scene, Honbee, who went against the only foreign player in the league, Archon’s Sebastian “Xixo” Bentert. The German player came in as one of the tournament favorites and crushed the group stage to prove his strength but was stopped 2-4 by the Korean in the opening semi final today.
The winner of the event will win $9,000 out of the total $24,200 prize pool, alongside 150 HWC points.
