It’s maybe not who you expect as a lot of big names faced early elimination.
The competition over in Jonkoping is in full force as the 128 players vie through grueling swiss preliminaries and after four rounds, the top spots are not what most people would’ve predicted.
The first name that stands out is Kanelsnurr’s an unknown player from Norway who’s among the undefeated in the tournament so far. Kanelsnurr went through several up and comers like himself, the most notable name being that of Erik “Inderen” Kristensen but with a score of 4-0, he’s ready to face bigger challenges as his round 5 opponent will be none other than Xieyu “TiddlerCelestial” Weng. Speaking of the latter, it’s been good days for team Celestial as well as both Tiddler and his Taiwanese team-mate FrozenIce are undefeated so far.
In the group of 4-0 players we also see the names of Archon’s coach PurpleDrank, CN vs EU Cinderella story Hawkeye, Fnatic’s Kaldi and ROOT’s Ostkaka as well as Tempo Storm’s Gaara, the latter being one competitor who traditionally performs well on DreamHack grounds, having attended two grand finals and won one.
Going down the list of 3-1’s, we get even more surprises. Most of the players there are local heroes and the faces of Reynad, Ekop, Maverick, Amaz, Thijs, Dog and Faramir are among the few known ones that stand out.
Speaking of known faces, several notable ones are already out of the tournament, as their accumulated losses guarantee them to miss the playoffs. That includes Archon team-mates Firebat, Orange and Zalae, Liquid’s Neirea and mYi’s Alesh, among others.
