The Lollipop Chainsaw movie adaptation will be an R-rated action comedy.
Dragami Games has revealed that a film adaptation of Lollipop Chainsaw is in the works, as first reported by Deadline. The Japanese cult classic has been somewhat dormant in the decade after its release in 2012, but Dragami Games is bringing the zombie hack-and-slash back to the limelight with a barrage of new content planned.
The studio recently announced a sequel called Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back, which will launch alongside an animated series, and now unveiled a live film adaptation–all as part of its massive Tokyo Game Show 2026 showcase.
What we know about the Lollipop Chainsaw movie
The original 2012 Lollipop Chainsaw game follows protagonist Juliet, a cheerleader at San Romero High School who comes from a family of zombie hunters. The 18-year old encountered a zombie apocalypse at her school and with a chainsaw as her weapon, must fight against all odds to save the school and her boyfriend, Nick.
A decade later, Dragami Games revived the franchise by releasing a remastered version of the original game, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, in 2024. The studio appears keen to continue expanding the cult classic, with a sequel set for release next year and its first live-action feature film already in development.
The movie adaptation will follow the original storyline but will take place before the events of the game. It is planned as an R-rated action comedy, so audiences can expect plenty of gore and mature scenes.
The team working on the Lollipop Chainsaw movie has also been revealed, with Dragami Games announcing the following lineup: Nada Holdings head Joe Teng, former ZDF Studios head Robert Franke and his indie company Orange Chariot, Throne Inc managing director Takafumi Yuki, Ambitious Entertainment’s Kirk Shaw, and Non Stop TV’s Patricio Rabuffetti.
According to Deadline, Dragami Games president Shohei Sato said the Lollipop Chainsaw movie will aim to entertain both fans who have played the game and audiences who are new to the franchise.
