Pokémon to bring first-ever Nintendo and Pokémon Center pop-ups to Malaysia this September

Pokémon has revealed more details about its anniversary event in Malaysia, including an upcoming Pokémon pop-up store.

The Pokémon Company has announced that it will bring the nation’s first-ever Nintendo and Pokémon Center pop-up stores to Ombak KLCC in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, running through the final quarter of the year, alongside its PokéXciting campaign in the city.

This campaign is part of Pokémon’s Asia-wide 30th anniversary celebrations, with Kuala Lumpur as its first stop before heading to other cities, including Taipei, Singapore and Manila.

What are the dates for the Nintendo and Pokémon Center pop-up stores?

While the PokéXciting campaign runs over two days from 12 to 13 September, the pop-up stores will remain open for much longer.

The Nintendo and Pokémon Pop-Up Stores will operate from 12 September to 31 December at Ombak KLCC, which is a new retail mall within the KLCC precinct. Spanning over 100 days, the activation gives fans ample time to visit Malaysia’s first official Pokémon retail experience.

Fans can expect the temporary stores to feature official merchandise from Nintendo franchises and the Pokémon brand. According to The Star, the pop-up will also include exclusive Mario and Luigi T-shirts, representing beloved characters from Nintendo’s classic Super Mario Bros. series.

Further details on official opening dates and time, venue specifics, and more have yet to be announced.

Will Malaysia get a permanent Pokémon Center?

The Kuala Lumpur Pokémon Center could potentially become a permanent fixture, depending on local reception to the activities and events, The Star reported, citing Susumu Fukunaga, corporate officer of The Pokémon Company, during a media Q&A.

What events can fans expect during the PokéXciting campaign?

PokéXciting, one part of the Asia-wide celebration for Pokemon's 30th anniversary, was announced two weeks ago, teasing a range of activities designed to engage fans across the region.

In Malaysia, the programme will feature a Nintendo and Pokémon Center pop-up store for over three months, alongside themed decorations throughout KLCC Park. Fans will also be able to experience the country’s first-ever Pokémon drone show there.

PokéXciting will also include live stage performances and other activities, all accessible for free. A special PokéXciting Pikachu costume will be featured, Malaysia’s version sporting a turquoise hair design.

Pokémon GO, which also celebrates its 10th anniversary, is set to include the turquoise-haired Pikachu mascot in its in-game roster, The Star reported.

Previously, The Pokémon Company also confirmed a Pokémon Run 30 event, where fans can take part in an immersive experience featuring Gym checkpoints and Pokémon characters along the route.

Visitors can also look forward to a Carnival Zone with collectibles and merchandise, a Time Tunnel showcasing Pokémon’s history, a Pikachu Parade, meet-and-greet sessions, photo opportunities, and interactive booths.
