The Wolf Among Us 2 targets 2027 release, original game’s remaster coming this year

It's the Year of the Wolf.

After an eight-year journey marked by bankruptcy, cancellations, restarts and repeated delays, The Wolf Among Us is finally back in the spotlight. During Summer Game Fest 2026, Telltale Games unveiled a new trailer for The Wolf Among Us 2, confirmed a 2027 release window for the long-awaited sequel, and teased The Wolf Among Us Remastered, which is slated to launch later this year.

Telltale also published their own announcement on both games the official Telltale Games X (formerly Twitter account).

The reveal marks the franchise's first major update in roughly four years. While Telltale last showcased an official gameplay trailer for The Wolf Among Us 2 in 2022, the extended silence that followed left many fans wondering about the project's future.

When is The Wolf Among Us 2 coming out?

The latest trailer offered a fresh look at The Wolf Among Us 2, bringing back familiar faces including Bigby Wolf and Snow White while highlighting the dark fantasy setting and crime-solving gameplay that helped make the original title a fan favourite.

Based on Bill Willingham's Fables comic series, the games take place in a world where fairy tale characters secretly live among humans. Players once again step into the role of Bigby Wolf, the former Big Bad Wolf-turned-investigator, as he tackles a new mystery.

Telltale confirmed that the sequel remains in development and is currently targeting a 2027 release window. “We're working hard to deliver this neon-noir mystery,” they said in their official announcement. There's a seedy criminal in underground operating in Fabletown and Sheriff Bigby will have his claws full trying to solve the case. And how does the Oz Gang factor into all this?" Telltale concludes their announcement adding, "It's the year of the Wolf."

Is The Wolf Among Us getting a Remaster?

Yes, and it will arrive much sooner than the sequel. The closing moments of the Summer Game Fest trailer teased The Wolf Among Us Remastered, an updated version of the original 2013 release that is planned to launch later this year. In Telltale's official announcement on X, they said that they aren't just giving “a modern facelift to the classic” but adding it with a lot of “behind-the-scene extras” along with other features to be announced closer to the release date.

The remaster is expected to bring the acclaimed narrative adventure to modern platforms, giving both returning fans and newcomers a chance to revisit Bigby's first outing before the sequel finally arrives.

Why did The Wolf Among Us 2 take so long to develop?

Telltale originally announced plans for The Wolf Among Us 2 in 2017, but development was halted after the company entered bankruptcy proceedings in 2018. Following the acquisition of the Telltale brand by LCG Entertainment, the project was revived during The Game Awards 2019.

However, development did not simply resume where it left off. The team reportedly restarted production from scratch, with the release timeline later affected by factors including an engine change and internal restructuring.

With both projects now confirmed to be in active development, attention turns to what tale will be told next.
