Capcom confirms players must complete Resident Evil Requiem’s story to unlock upcoming mini-game

Better start grinding before the mini-game arrives!

Capcom, the studio behind the hit Resident Evil Requiem studio, has continued working on new content, drawing players back with a new Photo Mode added in March, an upcoming mini-game arriving soon, and a planned story DLC set for release in the future.

As fans await the arrival of the new game mode–or “mini-game”, as the developers describe it–new information has emerged, revealing that players will need to complete the main game before gaining access to it.

It has also been revealed that the mini-game will be a single-player experience “based on the battles in the main game”, aimed at players who still want more Resident Evil content after finishing the campaign.

Capcom on Resident Evil Requiem’s upcoming mini-game and DLC

In a conversation between Denfaminicogamer and Capcom director Akifumi Nakanishi, alongside producer Masato Kumazawa, several new teases regarding upcoming Resident Evil content were shared. Regarding the upcoming mini-game, the director said it is nearing completion:

“For those who have cleared the main story and are thinking, ‘I still haven’t had enough fun!’, I think you’ll be able to enjoy this and go ‘Whoa!!’, so sharpen your tomahawk and wait.”

Kumazawa followed by encouraging players to finish the main story to unlock the mini-game content: “This mini-game is content that is unlocked after clearing the main story. So, if you're planning to play it, clearing the main story during Golden Week would be just right for you to be able to play it.”

As for the highly anticipated DLC–which still has many unknown details, including its title and release window–the Capcom producer simply confirmed that it is currently a work-in-progress.

“Regarding the additional story DLC, at this stage all I can say is that it’s currently under development, so please look forward to it,” Nakanishi stated.

One of the biggest discoveries is that of Leon S. Kennedy’s wedding ring, suggesting he may secretly have a spouse and additional lore yet to be explored. This had surprised gamers who flooded the internet with theories. But it seems those eager for answers still have a long time to wait.

When asked for more details regarding Leon’s ring–which may come through the upcoming DLC–the director simply hinted that there would indeed be further lore expansions someday, but “that someday isn’t now”.

What is the upcoming mini-game in Resident Evil Requiem?

While there are still no official details, leaks point to a potential Mercenaries mode, an arcade-style game mode originating from Resident Evil 4.

In Mercenaries, players take control of various playable characters and jump into fast-paced combat scenarios where they must defeat waves of enemies, maintain score combos, and search maps for hidden bonuses while racing against the clock.

It would certainly make for an exciting mode using Resident Evil’s revamped combat and visuals.

Either way, Resident Evil fans have plenty to look forward to, with the mini-game arriving soon, a new DLC officially announced, and leaks continuing to point towards a potential Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake. As of now, Resident Evil Requiem has accumulated over seven million in sales and remain as one of the top-rated games this year.
