Resident Evil Requiem datamined tracks fuel speculation over upcoming Mercenaries mode

Some tracks featured a persistent ticking sound, which fans believe is the strongest hint at the Mercenaries mode.

Something new may be lurking beneath the surface of Resident Evil Requiem. Fresh datamined findings are pointing towards a possible additional game mode, with players now zeroing in on one familiar name in particular: Mercenaries.

The findings were shared over the weekend by X/Twitter user @MasyaSYRKOV, who detailed the discovery and how others could locate the files themselves.

What was found in the allegedly leaked Resident Evil Requiem files?

"I was digging through Resident Evil Requiem files and found something that could be related to future extra mode / Mercenaries. Here [are] some of the tracks I found," SYRKOV said.

The datamine includes 10 tracks that do not appear to be tied to any currently available content in the game. While some of the audio, such as ambient or safe room-style music, does not immediately stand out, several tracks lean into more intense, fast-paced compositions.

Notably, Tracks 3 and 4 feature a persistent ticking sound, suggesting a time-based mechanic. Other entries, particularly Tracks 7 and 9, carry a more frantic tone that aligns with high-pressure gameplay scenarios.

Could the Mercenaries mode be returning in Resident Evil Requiem?

The discovery has reignited discussion around the potential return of Mercenaries, the long-running arcade-style mode featured in Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil 4, and Resident Evil 5. Known for its score-chasing structure, the mode typically drops players into arenas where they fend off waves of enemies under strict time limits.

Some Redditors specifically noted that the persistent ticking sound in tracks 3 and 4 is the strongest hint that they are related to Mercenaries.

Capcom previously confirmed in March that Resident Evil Requiem would receive a series of post-launch updates in the coming months. Among them is a "minigame" scheduled to arrive in May, which players had already speculated could tie into Mercenaries. The newly-surfaced audio has only strengthened speculations around that theory.

Confirmed post-launch content plans for Resident Evil Requiem

Despite the growing speculation, Capcom has yet to officially confirm the nature of the upcoming minigame, or whether Mercenaries will be part of Requiem’s post-launch roadmap.

The developer has, however, has confirmed broader plans for the title. Capcom has previously confirmed that more content for Requiem is on the way, includying a major story expansion. Director Koshi Nakanishi also previously indicated that future content would "delve deeper into the world of Requiem," and other long-requested features like the Photo mode.

Meanwhile, Resident Evil series executive producer Jun Takeuchi marked the franchise’s 30th anniversary last month by promising that "even more wonderful experiences" are on the way.
