Capcom is cooking more things for Resident Evil Requiem.
It looks like fans of Resident Evil have a lot more to look forward to! Capcom have confirmed that a major story expansion for Resident Evil Requiem is officially in development.
The update was revealed in a short video shared on X (formerly Twitter) on 11 March, where director Koshi Nakanishi thanked fans for the overwhelming support following the game’s release.
According to Nakanishi, Requiem has already surpassed five million copies sold, marking one of the biggest launches in the long-running survival horror series’ history.
While routine patches addressing performance issues and bugs are already underway, Capcom are also planning to expand the experience with additional features and content updates.
One of the first additions players can expect is the long-requested Photo Mode, giving fans the chance to capture their favourite moments across the game’s eerie environments. Beyond that, Nakanishi teased another surprise arriving around May in the form of a new mini-game.
Resident Evil Requiem story expansion will delve deeper into the world of Requiem
Then came the most important announcement. Right before the reveal, the video itself leaned heavily into humour, with Nakanishi flipping through a stack of printed sheets showing deliberately ridiculous ideas that looked more like in-jokes than actual features. Among them were a Match-3 puzzle game, a Poker mode starring Victor Gideon, and even what appeared to be a cooking mini-game featuring someone grilling food mid-apocalypse. One mock-up even replaced series characters Leon and Grace on a Requiem poster with fluffy cats with the title Biohazard Requiem DLC.
While the jokes grabbed attention, fans particularly honed in on one printout. It showed Leon embracing a mysterious woman under the title “Forbidden Requiem.”
The image caught fans’ eyes because it may reference a subtle detail from the base game’s ending, where Leon appears to be wearing a wedding ring, sparking speculation about who he might have married. The printout also carried a playful twist. In the background, Leon is dressed in a suit in what looks like a host club, with the words “Harlequin Leon” subtly plastered above him, suggesting the slide may have been poking fun at fan theories, even if the expansion could eventually address the marriage.
Nakanishi confirmed that the extra story content will dive deeper into the world of Requiem and explore elements only hinted at in the main game. Development is already underway, though players may need to wait some time before it is ready.
For fans who finished Resident Evil Requiem and are dissecting every clue in the ending, the promise of new story content, and perhaps answers about Leon’s mysterious ring, is more than enough reason to stay tuned.
Then again, after showing off that printout that swapped Leon and Grace for fluffy chonky cats, Capcom may have accidentally stumbled onto another idea players could get behind too.
