Pokémon Pokopia’s new Rotom form and Minecraft-like gameplay have been revealed.
The Pokémon Company showed off Pokémon Pokopia at this week’s Pokémon Presents livestream, diving into the upcoming cosy life simulation game that puts the player in the slimy shoes (paws?) of Ditto. The new trailer shows off some Minecraft-like structures, newly-revealed Pokémon encounters, and a cooking mechanic.
Here’s the trailer:
Pokémon Pokopia shows off Minecraft-like gameplay features
Pokémon Pokopia is looking more and more Minecraft-like by the day. The upcoming life simulation game was initially likened to Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons after its first gameplay reveal, which also featured players starting a new life for themselves in a new land full of villagers. The difference here being, of course, that those villagers are Pokémon.
However, this week’s trailer has shown off a few more survival mechanics, which certainly aren’t present in New Horizons, making it seem more Minecraft-like by comparison. The trailer begins with a new stereo form revealed for Rotom, allowing the Pokémon to play music for the player at will.
Additionally, players will have to deal with a hunger mechanic, which involves eating food to gain buffs that help them reshape the land. To cook food, they’ll be able to learn from the Greedent Chef Dente and pick up multiple recipes. Cooking for both themselves and the Pokémon around them will render all manner of benefits.
The rest of the trailer teases new encounters with Pokémon like Raikou, along with multiplayer base-building and underground dungeon-crawling. Four players can team up and play together in online multiplayer, and they will even be able to participate in Prop Hunt-like modes.
Pokémon Pokopia launches on 5 March, 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2.
