What to expect in Subway Surfers City
SYBO’s sequel to Subway Surfers will bring nostalgia into modern gaming, with the same core concept upgraded with tons of additional features and content.
The protagonist of the game, Jake, and many other familiar faces, will be placed in Subway City, dubbed the heart of the Subway Surfers universe. In this “modern multicultural metropolis”, you will be able to unlock and race through four different districts: The Docks, Southline, Sunrise Blvd, and Delorean Park.
New mechanics will also be introduced to spice up players’ endless run, with speed pads to boost progress, a stomp move feature to unlock hidden abilities, and bouncy shields to improve the run further, among many others.
The game will also offer more modes to explore. The Classic Endless Mode, takes you into the classic infinite runner experience, where you aim for high scores and uncover new paths and obstacles. The City Tour mode brings more objectives into the game with leveling and missions to complete. Meanwhile, the Event mode brings challenging finite runs to players.
Here comes the exciting part. SYBO promises fresh content every season, though we don't know long the seasonal intervals will be yet. For a long time, Subway Surfers was stuck with the same old cosmetics release over a decade ago. Now, we will see new content released more often with new characters, outfits, and hoverboards in its coming sequel–with some likely locked behind in-app purchases.
Can the Subway Surfers sequel match the original game's success?

Released in 2012, Subway Surfers was one of the first 3D endless runner genre games using modern mobile touchscreen technology, which was a major factor to its success. It went on to become one of the most downloaded mobile games in history, collecting over 4.5 billion lifetime downloads.
With a sequel coming 14 years later, it’ll be interesting to see whether SYBO can replicate the success of the game’s predecessor.
