SumaiL parts ways with Nigma Galaxy after three years

SumaiL's departure from Nigma Galaxy follows an abysmal start for the team in the 2025-2026 competitive season.

Dota 2 superstar Syed Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan has parted ways with Nigma Galaxy after three years, the organisation announced on Monday (1 March). SumaiL had been with the Nigma Galaxy organisation for almost three years, having joined the organisation in May 2022.

SumaiL's departure from Nigma Galaxy closes a rollercoaster chapter in the storied player's career. After joining Nigma Galaxy in May 2022, SumaiL played in the team's active roster for a year before getting loaned to China's Team Aster from May to November 2023. SumaiL returned to Nigma Galaxy in December of that year and played with the team until his eventual departure.

SumaiL's rollercoaster tenure with Nigma Galaxy comes to an end

The year leading up to SumaiL's departure from Nigma Galaxy notably saw the organisation achieve its most successful results, followed by one of its bleakest periods in the early stages of the ongoing 2025-2026 competitive season.

Nigma Galaxy notably started 2025 by announcing Daniel Chan “Ghost” Kok Hong will be their long-term mid laner as Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi remained sidelined due to medical issues. With Ghost in the lineup and showcasing remarkable synergy with SumaiL, Nigma Galaxy produced noteworthy results, including a Top 4 finish in BLAST Slam II, Top 8 at ESL One Raleigh 2025, and seventh place at DreamLeague Season 26.

But what truly sparked Nigma Galaxy's return to relevance was their qualification to The International (TI) 2025, which was notably the first time that the organisation managed to earn a spot in Dota 2's annual world championship tournament.

Many expected Nigma Galaxy to be among the teams to make an early exit from TI 2025, but the squad managed to secure a commendable 5th-6th place finish.

In the Swiss-format Group Stage, Nigma Galaxy barely avoided early elimination and earned a spot in the Elimination Round. There, they pulled off a 2-1 reverse sweep over Aurora Gaming to secure an unexpected Playoffs berth.

The first round of the Playoffs then saw Nigma Galaxy drop to the lower bracket after losing to BetBoom Team in the upper bracket quarterfinals. However, Nigma Galaxy managed to bounce back with a massive 2-0 upset over Team Tidebound to secure a Top 6 finish. Unfortunately, their run in TI 2025 came to an end in the lower bracket quarterfinals at the hands of eventual runners-up Xtreme Gaming.

Despite their success in TI 2025, Nigma Galaxy overhauled their roster in the offseason. Maroun “GH” Merhej announced a break from competitive play in September and was replaced by Tobias “Tobi” Buchner on trial. Ghost then left the team in November and was replaced by Aybek “TA2000” Tokayev.

Nigma Galaxy produced disappointing results following those roster changes, as they failed to qualify for BLAST Slam V, only finished fourth in a Tier 2 tournament at FISSURE Universe: Episode 7, then failed to make it out of the Group Stages of FISSURE PLAYGROUND 2 and PGL Wallachia Season 6.

Those results prompted another wave of roster changes, with Tobi leaving the team to make way for the return of GH in early December. After Nigma Galaxy failed to make it out of the Group Stage once again in DreamLeague Season 27, the team parted ways with TA2000 after just two months.

So far this year, Nigma Galaxy have been playing with Denys “rincyq” Bohushev as their stand-in carry player. However, the team still produced disappointing results, failing to qualify for BLAST Slam VI, DreamLeague Season 28, ESL One Birmingham 2026, FISSURE Universe: Episode 8, and PGL Wallachia Season 7.

With SumaiL now having left the team, Nigma Galaxy are just down to three signed players in Tony “No!ob” Assaf, Omar “OmaR” Moughrabi, and GH plus rincyq as their stand-in carry player. Nigma Galaxy have yet to announce SumaiL's replacement. With that said, No!ob is expected to over the mid laner role from SumaiL, having shifted to the offlane role when he joined the team after being a mid laner for his entire career prior.
