Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced potential reveal edges closer after PEGI rating appears

Edward Kenway’s flag is flying again.

A long-rumoured return to the Caribbean may finally be nearing daylight. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has surfaced via an official PEGI classification, adding fresh momentum to speculation that Ubisoft is preparing to formally unveil its long-whispered remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

The Pan European Game Information (PEGI) board has listed Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced with an 18 rating, citing violence, bad language and in-game purchases. While the entry offers no gameplay details or platform confirmation, the appearance of a finalised title alongside a mature rating is typically one of the last steps before a public announcement.

Ubisoft has yet to acknowledge the project, despite Black Flag being one of the most discussed unannounced remakes in the company’s catalogue. The “Resynced” naming also marks the first time the remake has appeared under a clear subtitle, suggesting internal branding is already locked in.

The leaks that refuse to stay buried

The PEGI listing is only the latest flashpoint in a year defined by repeated Black Flag leaks, each one adding fuel to the same fire.

In March, PureArts, a company known for licensed Ubisoft statues, appeared to accidentally reference a Black Flag remake during a livestream presentation. While showcasing upcoming Assassin’s Creed figures, hosts acknowledged Edward Kenway’s absence from the lineup.

“Assassin’s Creed fans out there, you should be aware that there is something going on with Edward,” one host said, before adding, “I think so… I definitely saw an article about it… there’s gonna be something going on with Edward and our PVC, ⅛-scale statue will reflect that accordingly.”

The exchange was clipped and shared widely online, including in a video posted here:

Three months later, the conversation shifted from merchandise to voice talent. In June, Assassin’s Creed community figure Zephryss shared footage of Edward Kenway’s voice actor, Matt Ryan, speaking with a fan. While careful not to give anything away directly, Ryan’s wording drew immediate attention.

“Have you beat the game?… well you may have to beat it again,” Ryan said, before adding, “There’s a reason I say that but I can’t say anything…” The video was also shared by fan community social media manager Zephyrss on X:

Zephyrss also noted Ubisoft's movement on Steam which seems to indicate that they're preparing for something big for Black Flag:

By September, anonymous sources speaking to France’s Jeux Vidéo Magazine suggested that the remake would overhaul Black Flag’s original design. According to those claims, the project would adopt Ubisoft’s modern action RPG framework, including loot systems, a full inventory and reworked combat inspired by recent Assassin’s Creed releases rather than the original game’s counter-based swordplay.

The report also pointed towards a March 2026 launch window, though no formal timeline has been confirmed. So whether Ubisoft likes it or not, Black Flag Resynced keeps slipping into view. The name is out there, the seas are restless, and Edward Kenway is circling once more.
