Co-op climbing indie hit Peak sells one million copies in just six days on Steam

Players on Steam think the content is "peak", with 92% giving the game a positive rating.

Indie developer Aggro Crab has announced that Peak, its new co-op climbing game, has sold over one million copies just six days after launch. The milestone was shared on 22 June via the studio’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, where the developers commented on the unexpected success with characteristic humour.

“Why did this stupid jam game sell more copies than Another Crab’s Treasure[?] I’m gonna crash out,” Aggro Crab posted, referencing their previous Soulslike title.

In comparison, Another Crab's Treasure's opening weekend sold 100,000 units across different platforms, and has sold almost 500,000 units since release.

Despite its modest origins as a jam project, Peak has been well received on Steam, where it currently holds a “Very Positive” rating based on over 90% positive user reviews. Priced at under US$8, the game has proven to be an accessible co-op experience for players seeking a mix of challenge, teamwork, and survival elements.

Co-op gameplay and survival mechanics help define Peak’s appeal

In Peak, players work together to ascend a procedurally-generated mountain composed of four distinct biomes. Described by the developers as “a co-op climbing game where the slightest mistake can spell your doom,” the game encourages teamwork as players help each other overcome hazards, manage limited stamina, and survive dangerous terrain. Environmental obstacles, shifting terrain, and unpredictable conditions force players to adapt on each run.

Survival elements also play a role, requiring players to scavenge for food and manage injuries that impact stamina and movement. Items such as energy drinks, climbing spikes, and ropes can be found and used strategically to assist in progression or support teammates.

The game’s description captures its core concept: “Need a hand? You’ll need to rely on your friends to have any hope of scaling the mountain, which changes each time you play. Help each other up ledges, or place ropes and climbing spikes to make the way easier for those who come after.”

Following its early momentum, Peak continues to gain attention among co-op and indie game communities. Its combination of procedural design, survival mechanics, and physics-based interactions have contributed to its early success and visibility across platforms.
