Stardew Valley's upcoming 1.7 update will add two new marriage candidates

Stardew Valley’s upcoming 1.7 update is shaping up to be a big one.

The beloved farming life simulator game Stardew Valley looks set to receive another big update in the near future, according to its developer ConcernedApe. In an interview with IGN, Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone confirmed that an upcoming 1.7 update will bring changes to players' in-game children and two new marriage candidates.

Stardew Valley’s 1.7 update will add more romance options

Stardew Valley’s existing cast of romanceable bachelors and bachelorettes is about to expand. In a surprise reveal during an interview on the game’s 10th anniversary, Barone confirmed that two new marriage candidates are coming in the 1.7 update.

Barone also confirmed that a “popular fan request” regarding children, which players can have with the townsfolk they choose to marry, is also in the works. However, he stopped short of giving exact details on how the mechanic is getting touched up, only saying that he is “trying to make the children a little more interesting.”

Here’s his full statement to IGN:

“I'm trying to not reveal too much because I like for it to be a surprise. What I will say without maybe being too specific is that with this update, one of the things we're trying to do is... Well, there is a popular fan request, which has to do with the children, trying to make the children a little more interesting.

"So I'm trying to do something with that, but there's a lot of other things in the update as well that no one's really asked for, but I think people will appreciate it. I'm going to be adding two more marriage candidates, but I'll reveal who it is on the anniversary day.”

It sounds like players won’t have to wait long to find out who these new marriage candidates are, as Stardew Valley’s anniversary date is now only weeks away, falling on 26 February. Hopefully, we’ll also learn what other changes “that no one’s really asked for” are in the works for 1.7 in due time.

This isn’t the first time Stardew Valley has added new marriage candidates post-launch. Shane and Emily were simply platonic villagers until the game’s 1.1 update turned both of them into marriage candidates, and future updates expanded on their storylines. While the identities of these two new marriage candidates are under wraps, two options seem like a slam dunk, considering their popularity among the community: Sandy and the Wizard.

Stardew Valley’s 1.7 update has no release date, so players will simply have to put up with ConcernedApe’s enigmatic teases on its new content for now.
