Helldivers 2 is deploying on Xbox in August 2025

Democracy marches onward, Helldivers 2 has broken free from PC and PlayStation 5 exclusivity.

It’s official: the Super Earth Armed Forces are extending their recruitment drive. After over a year of Helldivers fighting exclusively on PlayStation 5 and PC, Helldivers 2 is finally coming to Xbox Series X|S on 26 August 2025.

The announcement dropped on 3 July via the official Xbox website, marking a rare occasion where a Sony-published game finds its way onto Microsoft’s platform.

Helldivers 2 Xbox release brings Galactic War to new recruits

“We know gamers have been asking for this for some time, and we are so excited to bring more Helldivers into our game,” Game Director Mikael Eriksson said in the announcement. The message from Eriksson was clear: “The fight for Super Earth has only just begun.”

“Once you’re enlisted,” the official website reminds us, “you’ll be our boots on ground, fighting in the Galactic War, a real-time metagame where players work together to complete operations, liberate planets, and spread Managed Democracy to the furthest reaches of the galaxy.”

Developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, Helldivers 2 launched for PS5 and PC in February 2024 as a third-person co-op shooter where up to four players join forces to deliver freedom, liberty, and good old-fashioned Managed Democracy, all backed by some of the most devastating weaponry ever deployed in the galaxy.

Last November during the Golden Joystiq Awards, Arrowhead developers revealed the game has sold over 15 million units.  And according to SteamDB, it hit a record-breaking 458,709 concurrent players on Steam, the highest ever for a PlayStation-published title on PC.

Its popularity even caused a brief crisis within the ranks when a controversial attempt by Sony to enforce PlayStation Network account linking sparked widespread backlash and a flood of negative reviews. In the end, democracy prevailed, and the policy was swiftly reversed.

The fight for democracy is far from over. With Xbox players soon joining the ranks, the frontlines are about to get even louder, messier, and more explosive.
