Electronic Arts aims to release a new Battlefield game before April 2026

Electronic Arts has confirmed that its next Battlefield is on schedule to be released before April 2026.

Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed its next Battlefield instalment is scheduled for release sometime in fiscal year 2026, which ends in April 2026. The video games giant also announced that a full reveal of the game has been scheduled for Summer 2025 after several months of invite-only playtesting through Battlefield Labs. EA CEO Andrew Wilson shared the news and the full reveal announcement, as part of the company's Q4 and financial year 2025 earnings report.

Battlefield also promised to expand the invite-only playtest after solving the stability and server performance issue by inviting more players in the United States and Europe, while also starting to include a selected area of Asia.

Previously, EA announced that the next Battlefield game would have a plan to bring the franchise back to its roots. They promised to ditch the controversial Specialist system from Battlefield 2042 and return to the traditional class-based systems. They also vowed to focus on and refine the map designs, with the aim of avoiding the overly open-ended approach of Battlefield 2042.

The modern Battlefield will be developed under the Battlefield Studios umbrella, which consists of four teams: DICE from Sweden, Criterion from the United Kingdom, Motive from Canada, and Ripple Effect from the United States of America. Each team handled a different aspect of the game. DICE will lead the development of multiplayer and core gameplay mechanics, Criterion will take charge of the single-player campaign, Motive will assist with multiplayer map design and AI, and Ripple Effect will create an all-new kind of experience for Battlefield.

EA's aim to release a new Battlefield before April 2026 might be a nod to the recently announced Grand Theft Auto VI release. The long-awaited sequel to Grand Theft Auto V will be released on 26 May, 2026. The strategically-aimed release might boost the sales of the game while riding the wave of anticipation of the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, which will be returning to Vice City.
