With Tobi’s trial period now over and DreamLeague Season 27 approaching, Nigma Galaxy is set to unveil its new hard support soon.
Prominent Dota 2 team
Nigma Galaxy has ended its collaboration with Austrian player Tobias “Tobi” Buchner, officially concluding his stint as their trial position 5 player. Tobi’s departure comes two months after he joined the renowned lineup last October. He had stepped into the former role of legendary support player
Maroun “GH” Merhej, who took a break following The International (TI) 2025.
However, Tobi’s trial period at the start of the 2025/2026 season ended on a sour note, with lackluster results across two major tournaments. During this stint, Tobi finished in 12th–14th place in both FISSURE PLAYGROUND 2 and PGL Wallachia Season 6. These results stand in stark contrast to Nigma’s impressive run at TI 2025, where the team secured a spectacular Top 6 finish.
Unable to maintain the momentum from that championship performance, Nigma Galaxy opted to make roster changes and ultimately parted ways with Tobi. The team announced Tobi's departure across its social media:
“Our trial period with [Tobi] is over. We thank him for his contribution and wish him all the best.”
Over the last two seasons, Tobi has bounced between multiple teams without securing a permanent home. In late 2024, he trialed as
MOUZ’s offlaner, but the stint yielded disappointing results and the roster was eventually disbanded. This year, however, he performed notably better as a stand-in, delivering strong results–albeit while playing under already dominant teams.
He substituted for
Team Liquid in PGL Wallachia Season 5 and FISSURE Universe: Episode 5, finishing 3rd and 1st, respectively. He then stood in for
Tundra Esports at TI 2025, claiming a Top 8 finish.
Despite these successes, he was unable to find the same level of results with Nigma Galaxy. Following his departure from the roster, Tobi once again becomes a free agent with his future plans yet to be revealed.
Nigma Galaxy to announce their new support player
With a vacant spot in Nigma Galaxy's fifth role, speculations have arisen regarding who will replace Tobi. Many have hoped for GH's return to the lineup and it might be possible considering his previous break. The former TI champion had taken a break in December 2023, only to return months later in May 2024.
Some have also named Oleh “Kaori” Medvedok as the potential replacement following his victorious stand-in performance with MOUZ at PGL Wallachia Season 6. It seems even more likely as Kaori have played alongside most of Nigma's current players, competing under
PSG Quest from 2022-2024.
While fans are curious on Nigma's decision, they don't have to wait long for the reveal. We can expect the team to announce their new position 5 soon, with their next tournament just around the corner. Nigma Galaxy is set to compete in DreamLeague Season 27, beginning 10 December. The online event, featuring a wide pool of 24 teams, will serve as the final major tournament of the year.
