GH returns to Nigma Galaxy ahead of DreamLeague Season 27

GH has returned to Nigma Galaxy after a two-month break, just in time for DreamLeague Season 27.

Prominent Dota 2 support player and The International (TI) 2017 champion Maroun “GH” Merhej has concluded his two-month break and officially returned to the active roster of Nigma Galaxy. His return comes just five days before the major event, DreamLeague Season 27, begins.

GH had stepped back last October after TI 2025, in which he helped the team achieve an impressive Top 6 finish. While GH was away on an indefinite break, Austrian player Tobias “Tobi” Buchner trialed in the position 5 role, playing for Nigma across two major tournaments in the early 2025/2026 season.

Additionally, Nigma also changed key player Ghost, who had been substituting in the carry role for the past eight months while Miracle- is on hiatus. In his place, Nigma brought on the up-and-coming Kazakhstani talent Aybek “TA2000” Tokayev, who joined on loan from Team Yandex.

Unfortunately, the two major roster shifts led to a drastic drop in performance, with lackluster runs and early exits. Nigma Galaxy bowed out in 12th–14th place at both FISSURE PLAYGROUND 2 and PGL Wallachia S6. The team also notably failed to qualify for BLAST Slam V, losing in the Europe qualifier against Team Yandex.

On 4 December, Nigma Galaxy announced their parting with Tobi, and a day later, revealed that GH would be returning to their active roster.

Nigma's current Dota 2 roster is as follows:

  1. Aybek “TA2000” Tokayev
  2. Syed Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan
  3. Tony “No!ob” Assaf
  4. Omar “OmaR” Moughrabi
  5. Maroun “GH” Merhej
  6. Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi (Coach)

GH returns in time for DreamLeague Season 27

With GH now back, we can expect the seasoned player to bring the team back on track. Fans will be looking forward to seeing if Nigma is capable of maintaining form in the top-tier scene or if their spectacular run at TI 2025 was just an anomaly.

Fortunately, we don't have to wait long to see Nigma in action with GH at the helm. His return comes just in time for the final major tournament of the year, DreamLeague Season 27–starting 10 December. This event will host a wide pool of 24 teams in an online format, with the best-performing teams set to be rewarded with a slice of the US$1 million prize pool and hefty EPT (ESL Pro Tour) points.
