OG secure Top 6 spot at PGL Wallachia Season 6 after win over BetBoom Team

OG's all-Filipino roster has secured a Top 6 placement at PGL Wallachia Season 6 after triumph over BetBoom Team in the first round of Playoffs.

OG has been making the rounds in community discussions–but in contrast to many previous instances, this time it's in a positive light. The iconic organisation, best known for being the first in the game's history to win back-to-back The International (TI) titles, has been in a frustrating slump in the past few years, unable to find results matching their prominence. However, the new season sees a major twist unforeseen even by their vast fan base.

Ahead of the ongoing PGL Wallachia Season 6, OG made a surprising move to drop their Western European roster and sign the Southeast Asian stack, Team Aureus. The team notably fields a full-Filipino lineup comprising the region’s popular talent like Erin Jasper “Yopaj” Ferrer and Timothy “TIMS” Randrup

Initially, the acquisition didn’t bring back significant hopes for OG. It seemed like a desperate attempt to pivot into something new in hopes for a change. Plus, SEA teams haven’t exactly been promising, most often qualifying to Tier 1 tournaments via the region’s qualifier only to end up facing elimination early.

However, OG immediately lifted early doubts as soon as they delivered their debut performance. The team completely stormed past expectations with a jaw-dropping run during the Group Stage and a strong start to the Playoffs.

In the Group Stage, OG started off strong with a 2-0 win over PARIVISION, widely considered as last season’s top dog. They then took a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Tundra Esports, who had very recently lifted the champion trophy at BLAST Slam IV. Despite suffering a sweep defeat against Team Liquid, OG bounced back with a win against a formidable Heroic, taking the final series 2-1.

With a 3-1 win-loss score, OG ranks in the Top 3 of the Group Stage, trailing just behind Team Spirit and Team Liquid. Blazing with momentum, OG moved into the Playoffs strong.

OG take down BetBoom to secure Top 6

In the first round of Playoffs, OG were paired against Eastern European powerhouse BetBoom Team–and expectations for them were middling.

The team had immensely delivered in the Group Stage, but questions still lingered on if they can make that same impact in the next stage. There is also no underestimating BetBoom Team. The EEU force often come out powerful, though are notorious for their instability.

In yet another surprise, OG managed to take down BetBoom Team 2-1 and advanced to the Upper Bracket Semifinals. The win continued to blow the minds of fans and the community, who are now even more closely monitoring their journey.

The victory over BetBoom Team also secured OG a Top 6 placement at PGL Wallachia Season 6–their best run since April 2024, during which the organisation clinched a Top 4 placement at ESL One Birmingham.

OG to face off Liquid for a Top 4 spot

OG’s conquest to a Cinderella run continues today, 21 November. However, the next obstacle is looking like their toughest so far, having to re-duel Team Liquid, the team that had very swiftly defeated them during the Group Stage.

Both teams will play for a Top 4 contention. The winner gets to advance to the Upper Bracket Finals and will play against the winner of PARIVISION vs Team Spirit. Meanwhile, the loser will drop to the lower bracket, continuing their journey with their backs against the wall.
