The groups have been finalized for the Group Stage of Riayadh Masters 2024 set to begin on Wednesday, July 10th.
Yesterday the last of the Play-in Stage games happened, wrapping things up with the decider matches. Although eight teams advanced, it wasn't known until today where they would be placed.
As with all things in Dota 2 lately, it seems the results are quite… messy.
The seedings are supposed to have been made based on the EPT rankings throughout the year. But on paper, it seems that Group A is the ‘group of death’ while Group B seems to be more well-rounded and without the same heavy hitters.
Riyadh Masters/ESWC 2024 Groups
Group A
Group A is boasting not only THE team to beat – Team Falcons, but also Team Spirit who has been coming in strong here at the end of the season. Although OG doesn't have the results to back them, we all know the ‘ceb effect’ is quite real, and well, ceb was missing from the TI qualifiers. It might not be Gaimin Gladiators' year, but they are still a strong contender, and rounding things out there are three SEA/SA teams who, for this event, have definitely shown up.
Group B
Group B does have consistency going for them. BetBoom and Xtreme Gaming have brought home podium finishes throughout the entire season – and should have no trouble getting through to the upper brackets now too. Tundra and Liquid have been mid at best but… consistently. Most of these teams seem to be predictable despite the two dark horses from the Play-in Stage, PSG.Quest and MOUZ, being seeded together. It just feels that this group is balanced in all things.
But if our prediction results from the Play-in Seed mean anything, we'll have to throw caution to the wind and just see where everyone's fate lies.
The action starts on Wednesday, July 10th at 14:30 with all eight teams from Group A competing. There are some pretty hype matches to check out to get things started:
