Newbee are the victors of the Shanghai Dota 2 Open

Newbee takes home the RMB200,000 ($30,000) first place prize for the Shanghai Dota 2 Open after easily defeating CDEC in the best-of-five finals.

Besting CDEC once in the winner bracket finals with a 2-1 score, and then in the grand finals with a 3-1 score, Newbee relegated CDEC to a second place finish in the Shanghai Dota 2 Open. Nevertheless, it was still a strong finish as CDEC finished second out of the eight Chinese teams in the bracket.

Prize distribution:
1st place - RMB200,000 ($30,000): Newbee
2nd place - RMB100,000 ($15,000): CDEC Gaming
3rd place - RMB60,000 ($9000): EHOME
4th place - RMB40,000 ($6000): LGD.Forever Young

Newbee kicked off the best-of-five series with an extremely convincing performance, taking down CDEC in a 19 minute game with a 22-3 kill score. Throughout the game, Newbee consistently executed successful support rotations and ganks.

In game two, CDEC's Lin 'June' Shi Yang destroyed Newbee, ending the game 19/0//9 on his Puck, doing damage equal to the net hero damage done by his teammates. June was able to completely control the game after Newbee left him to free farm and gifted him a few kills in CDEC's offlane, allowing him to quickly get a veil and snowball.

With the series tied 1-1, both sides were unwilling to give up a game without a fight. This led to the longest - and closest - game of the series, featuring a 19k net worth swing in five minutes. Newbee was the first to find themselves in a tough spot, following an over commitment on the enemy Puck at the 38th minute that resulted in a retaliatory team wipe. Regaining momentum after the setback was impossible, until their Morphling farmed up and found an opening to take down all of CDEC's cores. Riding this new lead, Newbee took the throne.

Now at match point, Newbee went for a save standard style based around Sven and Batrider timings. Once Batrider and Sven got their Blink and Echo Sabre, Newbee found crucial kills and snowballed off the momentum to their $30,000 prize money.
