The first day of the EPICENTER group stages finished in Group A with Team Liquid at the top of the ladder.

The eight teams that made it to the main event of EPICENTER have been split into two groups of four, and are playing in a GSL-style group stage to determine the seeds for the double elimination playoff bracket. The top two teams from each group will advance into the upper bracket, leaving the bottom teams to fight in a do or die series.

OG, Alliance, Team Liquid, and compLexity Gaming have been drawn in Group A. The main favorites in the group, Team Liquid, won both of their day one encounters, netting them a guaranteed upper bracket seed for the playoffs. They will also have an extra rest day as the playoffs are set to start on May 13th.

Alliance, OG, and coL, on the other hand, will continue to fight for second place in Group A. OG started day one with a strong performance against the Swedes from Alliance, taking game one on the back of a last pick Huskar for Amer 'Miracle-' al-Barqawi. A Drow Ranger paired with Dragon Knight for game two took the series 2-0.

They took Liquid by surprise with their flexibility, winning the first game of the match with a Miracle Invoker. One game away from winning the group, OG tried the Drow- Dragon Knight combo versus Kuro 'KuroKy' Salehi Takhasomi’s team, but Liquid was well prepared for that and countered them with a Mid Alchemist and Jesse 'JerAx' Vainikka's signature Earth Spirit to tie the series. Game three featured Miracle back on his Invoker, but Liquid got their hands on Earth Spirit once more and pushed OG with Death Prophet and Lone Druid to secure the first place finish in Group A.

CompLexity and Alliance have yet to win a series, and will face each other in the opening match of day two. The loser will be sent to the lower bracket playoffs, and the winner will play OG for second place.

The only good western team today is liquid.. Secret and EG are strugling..

EG and secret are teams that both get better throughout a tournament, they're not known for performing at their very best during group stage. To say they're "struggling" is a bit premature. Secret especially, played really good against Newbee In spite of losing.

The last sentence of second paragraph: "...as the playoffs are set to start on April 13th". I think the time should be May 13th.

Holy shit Newbee is the best team in the world right now, China Doto is back boyz ! On topic, Liquid are looking very good too, they might be the best contender to Newbee. I really wanna see those 2 teams fight, both have great team fight decisions and flashy plays.

Newbee looks amazing, but It's a bit too premature to make that kind of judgement based on group stage. If Newbee wins this tournament, then we can call them the best team In the world. It's silly to make these kind of judgements on group stage though
      • Wesley "Wardfree" Kuang ,
Do you think Liquor is better than Secret? And so sorry to let you know. Newbee is the number one team on gg.net's ranking. just admit the fact.
        • cory "cp33" pilfold ,
When exactly has GG.net's rankings determined who the real best team In the world was? ROFL? Are you actually serious?
      • Slurp "slurp778" slurp ,
Exactly, it's like "Na'Vi is back!" but actually they didn't win any tourney in 6.86. But it's Newbee, I have faith that they will win this Epicenter while continuing their winning streak.
