WePlay Dota 2 League Season 3: Direct invites prepare to face off against the regional champions

With the WePlay Season 3 finals only 4 weeks away, we take a look at the teams that will be vying for the championship in Kiev.

The championships for season 3 of the WePlay Dota 2 league are set to kick off on the 29th of April in Kiev. 8 Teams will go head to head for over two hundred thousand dollars in prize money and the title of WePlay Dota 2 league champions.

The teams are made up of two groups:
Four regional champions from the SEA, US, Western Europe, and Eastern European regions; and four additional direct invite teams are nominated by the WePlay Dota 2 league. So far only three of the direct invites have been announced, with the fourth to come soon.

Qualified teams:

Elite Wolves:

Peru Iwo “I w o” Bejar
Peru Freddy "SmAsH" Sina
Peru Juan Carlos "vanN" Tito
Peru Alex "Masoku" Dávila
Peru Ricardo "mstco" Román

Elite wolves qualified for WePlay Dota 2 via the Americas qualifiers. Despite the recent ban of several of their players from official Valve events, they have still received an invite to WePlay Season 3 as a result of their victory in their qualifying tournament.

Fnatic:

Malaysia Chai "Mushi" Yee Fung
Malaysia Zheng "Midone" Yeik Nai
Malaysia Chong "Ohaiyo" Xin Khoo
Philippines Djardel Jicko B. "DJ" Mampusti
Malaysia Wai Pern "Net" Lim

Fnatic took out the SEA qualifiers to score their seat at the table for the WePlay Season 3 finals. Fnatic took a perfect set at the SEA finals, even defeating MVP Phoenix who were given a direct invite to the WePlay event.

Team Liquid:

Finland Lasse "MATUMBAMAN" Urpalainen
Germany Adrian "FATA-" Trinks
Bulgaria Ivan "MinD_ContRoL" Borislavov
Finland Jesse "JerAx" Vainikka
Germany Kuro "KuroKy" Salehi Takhasomi

Team Liquid took the Western European qualifiers for WePlay Season 3, dropping only one game during the group stages.

Vega Squadron:

Ukraine Rostislav "fn" Lozovoi
Ukraine Vladimir "No[o]ne" Minenko
Ukraine Andrey "Mag" Chipenko
Russia Alexei "Solo" Berezin
Ukraine Semion "CemaTheSlayer" Krivulya

Vega Squadron were able to beat out major Eastern European heavyweights to take the qualifier position for the WePlay Season 3 finals.

Invited Teams:

Evil Geniuses:

Canada Kurtis "Aui_2000" Ling
Pakistan Syed Sumail "Suma1L" Hassan
United States Kanishka 'Sam' "BuLba" Sosale
United States Clinton "Fear" Loomis
United States Peter "ppd" Dager

Evil Geniuses, winners of TI5, were given a direct invite to the WePlay Season 3 finals. Coming off a third-place finish at Shanghai and with a new roster, WePlay Season 3 will be a good chance to test their new line-up.

Natus Vincere:

Russia Dmitry "Ditya Ra" Minenkov
Ukraine Danil "Dendi" Ishutin
Ukraine Victor "GeneRaL" Nigrini
Russia Akbar "SoNNeikO" Butaev
Ukraine Ivan "Artstyle" Antonov

Fresh off a newly announced roster, it will be interesting to see if Na’Vi are able to go head to head with the other international heavyweights.

MVP Phoenix:

South Korea Pyo "MP" No-a
South Korea Kim "QO" Seon-yeop
South Korea Lee "FoREV" Sang-don
South Korea Kim "Febby" Yong-min
South Korea Kim "DuBu" Doo-young

Despite not taking first place in the SEA qualifiers, MVP Phoenix were able to secure a direct invite to the WePlay Season 3 finals.

The final of the four directly invited teams is still to be announced. We can only suspect that with the current lack of Chinese teams in the tournament we are likely to see one of the major Chinese squads showing their faces at WePlay Season 3 finals.
