D2L: Evil Geniuses secures ticket to Las Vegas

The Western Division of the D2L has finished its groupstage and sees North-American powerhouse Evil Geniuses secure the first spot, thus qualifying them for the LAN finals in Las Vegas. They will join the likes of CDEC and LV-Gaming, with only one spot left to be decided.

Evil Geniuses is the third team to qualify for the D2L LAN finals. Taking down Team Tinker 2-0, the North-Americans secured themselves the first spot in the groupstage and have thus qualified for Las Vegas. While they are technically tied for first place as Virtus.pro Polar has accumulated the same amount of points, the encounter between the two teams ended in EG's favor, putting the North-Americans ahead.

Two teams have already qualified for the LAN event, as the Eastern Division has already concluded. CDEC set themselves apart in the groupstages with an impressive 6-1 run. LV-Gaming followed shortly after winning the bubblerace playoffs. The same bubblerace format will be applied in the Western Division, with four teams fighting for the last remaining spot.

VP.Polar will be seeded into the last match of the bubblerace, whereas fan favorites Team Tinker will have to win a total of three matches if they want to travel to Las Vegas. The same applies for Team Empire, Tinker's first opponent. The winner of this match-up will face Sneaky Nyx Assassins, with VP.Polar sitting comfortably in the bo5 finals.

The D2L Western Division has been hit with a number of teams declining their participation or pulling out of the ongoing tournament, most notably Cloud 9, Alliance and Team Secret. Thus the division was reduced to only six teams
