GamesCOM Review

Three days of confrontation, 7 teams fighting for the same objective but only one winner: Fnatic.MSI

As you know, two of our GG.net members, Germany Zeyall and Germany ereskigal were there at GamesCOM doing the live coverage of the event. They took as many pictures as they could, and a photogallery was created for this stuff. They also had the chance to interview Denmark Maelk and Denmark Angel by "stealing" a camera from someone out there. Also, don't forget to read the interview by GG.net with Rinoa and Marcou (the organizer) on our pre-coverage.

Let's talk about DotA now. Eight teams were invited but sadly one couldn't show up, and this one was Ukraine DTS. The other seven teams were seeded in two groups this way:

Group A

Europe Team Razer(Ks.Int)
Australia MciTY
Poland UCP.MP3
Germany dmZ

Group B

Denmark Ravens
Europe Fnatic
Europe Xeo Divine.WolfKing

As you can see, all these teams had to travel to Cologne, Germany, and some of them came from far away. That give you an idea about how important this event is to these teams.

Now follow the schedule of all matches in the groupstage, in order of happening, results and replay.

After these games, the two qualified from Group A were Europe Team Razer(Ks.Int) and Australia MciTY, while from Group B came Denmark Ravens and Europe Fnatic. The matches which followed were:

This two matches decided that Australia MciTY and Europe Team Razer(Ks.int) would fight for third and fourth places...

...and Denmark Ravens and Europe Fnatic would play the finals in best-of-three.

This is how the GamesCOM ended for them:

Placements GamesCom 09
1st.Europe Fnatic.MSI 7.000$
2nd.Denmark Ravens 4.000$
3rd.Australia MCiTY.sGty 3.000$
4th.Europe Razer.CGC 1.000$

Once again, Denmark Ravens was very close of winning the finals, but Europe Fnatic.MSI ended with their hopes just like they did at Dreamhack Summer 09. Some other teams didn't have a good performance, like Europe Xeo Divine.WolfKing and Poland UCP.MP3, which lost all the games they played. Germany dmZ got very close to qualify from the groupstage, but Australia MCiTY.sGty has shown a pretty good DotA since they appeared on the international scene and took their place. I guess that the qualification of Denmark Ravens and Europe Fnatic.MSI were expected.

Our member Germany ereskigal created a blog where he constantly updated us with what was happening there and you can follow it here. We hope you enjoyed the event as much as we did!
