GamesCOM Review

Three days of confrontation, 7 teams fighting for the same objective but only one winner: Fnatic.MSI

As you know, two of our GG.net members, Zeyall and ereskigal were there at GamesCOM doing the live coverage of the event. They took as many pictures as they could, and a photogallery was created for this stuff. They also had the chance to interview Maelk and Angel by "stealing" a camera from someone out there. Also, don't forget to read the interview by GG.net with Rinoa and Marcou (the organizer) on our pre-coverage.

Let's talk about DotA now. Eight teams were invited but sadly one couldn't show up, and this one was DTS. The other seven teams were seeded in two groups this way:

Group A

Team Razer(Ks.Int)
MciTY
UCP.MP3
dmZ

Group B

Ravens
Fnatic
Xeo Divine.WolfKing


As you can see, all these teams had to travel to Cologne, Germany, and some of them came from far away. That give you an idea about how important this event is to these teams.

Now follow the schedule of all matches in the groupstage, in order of happening, results and replay.




After these games, the two qualified from Group A were Team Razer(Ks.Int) and MciTY, while from Group B came Ravens and Fnatic. The matches which followed were:




This two matches decided that MciTY and Team Razer(Ks.int) would fight for third and fourth places...




...and Ravens and Fnatic would play the finals in best-of-three.




This is how the GamesCOM ended for them:

Once again, Ravens was very close of winning the finals, but Fnatic.MSI ended with their hopes just like they did at Dreamhack Summer 09. Some other teams didn't have a good performance, like Xeo Divine.WolfKing and UCP.MP3, which lost all the games they played. dmZ got very close to qualify from the groupstage, but MCiTY.sGty has shown a pretty good DotA since they appeared on the international scene and took their place. I guess that the qualification of Ravens and Fnatic.MSI were expected.
