Team Dignitas appeared to be in fine form as they cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory over .Russia’s mixed team in the WESG 2016 EU & CIS regional finals.
The first map played was .Russia’s pick, Mirage, with their opponents starting on the CT side. The Russian squad won the pistol round and quickly put up a 4-0 before a 1 vs 4 clutch by Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke netted the Dignitas their first round. Using their first round as a pivot point, the Danes strung seven rounds together, causing .Russia to call a timeout. After the pause, the Russians managed to take two of the last four to finish behind 6-9.
In the second half, Dignitas took the pistol and the next five rounds, putting themselves on map point, and Mirage was all but over. The Danish squad only conceded one more round before they closed out the map with a convincing 16-7 victory.
The second map, Cobblestone, saw a continuation of Dignitas’ dominance as they took the CT pistol and then some, posting six unanswered rounds before .Russia chimed in with one of their own. The Russians were unable to follow it up however, and the Danes extended their lead to 8-1. After piecing their economy back together, .Russia managed to split the last six rounds with their opponents, trailing Dignitas 4-11 going into the second half.
The second half was all Dignitas, narrowly winning the T side pistol, and taking five rounds in a row to close out the map 16-4, winning the final in two maps.
The 3rd and 4th place decider match saw Polish teams Virtus.pro and Team Kinguin go head to head. Virtus.pro swiftly took the first map, Cobblestone, with an impressive 16-2 score. Kinguin had a little more to say on Cache, the second map, but VP claimed victory in the end, winning 16-11 and finishing the series in two maps.
