The format and group draws for the World Electronic Sports Games European and CIS regional LAN has been revealed, teams will compete in four groups of five teams.
Twenty single-nation teams will compete in the WESG regional LAN on 6-9 October in order to secure one of the eight EU & CIS spots at the global finals which will be held in Shanghai, China. The tournament has a prize pool of $75,000 apart from the $1.5m prize pool for the global finals.
WESG regional LAN will bring together top-class teams such as Virtus.pro, EnVyUs and Astralis with some single-nation mix teams. It is revealed that the group stage will use a best-of-three round-robin format with the first, second and third placed teams of each group advancing to the playoff stage where they will fight for glory within a single-bracket format.
The most notable mix teams and stand-ins for the tournament in order to form single-nation squads are:
- Philip "aizy" Aistrup will stand-in for dignitas in place of Ruben "RUBINO" Villarroel;
- Team Russia's squad consists of Emil "kUcheR" Akhundov, Dmitry "hooch" Bogdanov, Mihail "Dosia" Stolyarov, Georgi "WorldEdit" Yaskin and Denis "electronic" Sharipov;
- .Norway's squad consists of Pål "Polly" Kammen, Bjørn "Skurk" Maaren, Håvard "rain" Nygaard, Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad and Ruben "RUBINO" Villarroel;
- Team 1's squad consists of Kirill "ANGE1" Karasiow, Danylo "Zeus" Teslenko, Vladyslav "bondik" Nechyporchuk, Vladyslav "arch" Svistov and Sergey "smike" Sklyarenko;
- dd's squad consists of Kévin "Ex6TenZ" Droolans, Victor "scara" Henkinet, Antoine "to1nou" Pirard, David "Davidp" Prince and Younes "YOUYOU" Ait Lalla;
- Egor "Egor K." Klimov will stand-in for EYESports in place of Igor "norison" Matyev.
