The first day of Gfinity Summer Masters I has come to an end, with the group B matches being played.
The group B brought us the only non-European team in this tournament, Cloud9. They were put against EnVyUs, clearly one of the favourites for taking this whole tournament. The Americans opened this match surprisingly well, storming and winning the first five rounds on de_train as Terrorists. This brought them a big boost as they had enough space to work with in the later stages of this map. In the end, we saw an overtime, where Cloud9 came out better, and took a 1-0 lead. The next map was nV's pick, de_inferno. Inferno, obviously one of the best maps for the French team, was where we saw once again how dominant they can be on it. nV closed the map 16-2, which left Cloud9 to hope for a much better performance on the third map. The third map was de_cache, where nV had a nice opening on the T side, managing to win this half with 8-7. Winning the second pistol round, Cloud9 tried to get this back into their control. However, once the French players got the big guns put out, the NA team got completely shut down, the final score being 16-12, closing the match with 2-1 in favor of the French.
The second pair of this group was Virtus, pro and mousesports. Mousesport's performance is always the subject of questioning, often being called an "online team". However, today, they showed what they are capable of doing at an offline event against one of the best teams in the world. The first map, favouring both teams, was de_cobblestone. Both teams bursted out with dominant Terrorist-side halves. The first on stage was Mousesports, who took 11 rounds on their T side, and left VP to struggle as they were moving over the Terrorist side. However, the Poles fought back in the same fashion, also collecting 11 rounds of their own, and moving this match to overtime. The Germans were better prepared in the overtime, and they took a 1-0 lead. The second map saw a completely different Mousesports. They started off at CT side, where they shut down all VP's attempts to breach their defenses. The Polish team moved onto the CT side with only a measly 4 T rounds under their belt. However, as soon as they switched sides, Mousesports continued dominating in the same way, smashing VP, and taking the map 16-5, and the series 2-0.
The second day will bring us the winners match between Mousesports and EnVyUs, while Virtus.pro and Cloud9 will fight in an elimination match of this group. The next to follow will be the deciding match between the loser of the winners match and the winner of the elimination match. The top two teams will move on to the playoffs.
