Matthew "Sadokist" Trivett: "This is my ninth event this year, which is crazy."

On day one of the CounterPit League Season 2 LAN Finals we were able to interview Matthew "Sadokist" Trivett, one of the prominent desk hosts and casters for CS:GO events. We discussed his personal interests, difficulties with scheduling and his take on recent events.

Aleksei: Hey guys, Aleksei here from GosuGamers with Matthew Trivett, also known as “Sadokist”. How are you Matthew?
Matthew: Good and you?

Aleksei: Yeah not bad thank you.
Aleksei: How are you enjoying Split?

Matthew: I really like it, however something that I and the team have noticed is that we fly in and fly out of events and that’s it, we don’t see much. This is my ninth event this year, which is crazy, so I asked if I could fly in early and tour around a little bit and it’s been awesome. The palace area was really really cool.

"Something that I and the team have noticed is that we fly in and fly out of events and that’s it, we don’t see much."

Aleksei: You’re an avid photographer, could you give us the photographer’s eye on Split?

Matthew: It’s pretty sick. I brought a 1424 super-wide angle lens, I shoot Nikon, and so I’ve been walking around alleyways and the bell tower. On Saturday I’m going to go up to the Castle, for anyone that watches Game of Thrones, it’s where they filmed the marine city. So I’m going to go up there, apparently it’s a two hour walk with crazy dungeon and castle themes. It’s been awesome so far, I’ve got some wicked pictures so far, so I’m happy with it.

Aleksei: Scheduling-wise the event spans over two days, pretty packed, especially for you guys casting.  Do you guys get exhausted?

Matthew: I’m alright with it, I mean, yes, it’s not ideal, but Henry (HenryG) and I have done PGL events where it’s just usually him and I doing the whole day. They can be pretty long, but I think the worst part about the schedule is the fact that it’s a four day event, two days CS:GO and two days Dota 2, with single elimination brackets, so for Team Immunity, who we just saw go out of the tournament against Virtus.Pro in two games, they traveled something like twenty hours from Australia to be here, so that’s the hardest part of it, the part where the teams are not necessarily going to be too friendly about and favourable with but in terms of length, I guess we’re sadly used to it. Even in Katowice we had a super long day as well, it seems to happen for whatever reason that four best-of-threes seem doable in a day. We’ll see if they go quick enough during the day.

Aleksei: On the note of IEM Katowice the 23:30 Fnatic vs. Astralis quarterfinal start must have been crushing.

Matthew: Yeah it was disappointing as well because there were issues with re-entrance to the building, that’s one of the features of that event. I think even if you ask the teams, they will probably tell you ‘its fine, we’re used to playing like that’, however in my opinion when you play that late at night, you’re never going to play your best. At that point you’re just exhausted, even if you’ve just sat there without playing you’re exhausted. Those kind of games aren’t ideal for anyone, not the players, viewers, staff or production crew, it’s a little rough.

"There isn’t anything really overwhelming in my life, but the dog and photography are the two that take up most of my spare time."

Aleksei: On a more personal note, could you tell us a bit about your hobbies, your interests outside of work?

Matthew: I have a dog that’s probably my biggest passion when I’m home, she’s a Husky/Collie mix, five years old, about 32 kilo and full of energy. I mountain bike with my brother a lot, that’s another hobby but she’s faster on feet than I am on my mountain bike at most times. I was also fairly athletic when growing up, sadly I don’t do as much anymore, but I still try to ski and swim and all that kind of stuff. People that follow me on Twitter know that I am interested in motor sports as I grew up in a car family. There isn’t anything really overwhelming in my life, but the dog and photography are the two that take up most of my spare time.

Aleksei: Those are really good hobbies man.
Aleksei: Any shout outs to conclude the interview?

Matthew: Shout outs, these are always fun. My mum’s birthday just went by, she turned the ripe age of sixty, she’s a young lady now, so happy birthday mum, I was actually home for that so that was awesome. Shout out to HenryG because I love him and I know you’ll watch this at some point, even though I’m about to sit beside you, love you.
