For the 4th year running, the eSports Awards is on the horizon. The annual event celebrates those key to eSports; the players, teams, publishers and journalists who have achieved greatness in the gaming world.
The exclusive event, held in Leipzig, Germany, will take place on the 25th of August 2007, where the winners will be announced during a televised ceremony. The eSports Awards are serious kudos, as there are only 12 (!!)categories for entry – six player awards (including team awards), three journalism awards, two industry awards and a new lifetime achievement category that may not even be used each year.
Change of policy regarding nominations.
While previously awards were based off year-round performance, now players can be nominated for outstanding results from a single tournament. This means that any tournament up until the cutoff date could make players eligible, and also encourages good media coverage for all the relevant events. That’s right,
relevant events. The players are judged solely on their performance in the largest or most respected world gaming events. A full list of those events can be found on the eSports website (and at the end of this article.)
Other issues such as community voting, have been expanded, and the transparency of the judge votes likewise clarified from previous years.
