The profile of the Baneling is up at the StarCraft site, which gives us screenshots, animations and lore about the little devil.
The baneling is a suicide unit, also called a sapper. With it's core genus coming from the Zergling, they have the same size, but with it's fluid-filled sacs it looks more like a monster than an alien dog.
The baneling is a creature so bloated with fluid-filled sacs that it can barely walk; instead, it moves itself by tucking into a tight ball and rolling."
The baneling is highly effective against razing structures and taking out an army very quick. Add to that the burrow ability and the baneling is a lethal, moving spider mine-typish unit which the player can create devastating death traps with.
Along with the site update, Blizzard also added new screenshots and some more artwork.
