Oldies agree: TeamLiquid StarLeague is tough

TeamLiquid StarLeague brings the retired gamers back to life. Eriador, Nazgul and Smuft, all players from the past, all agree that the ladder is very hard.

- This ladder has been very tough, there are a lot of really strong players who have good mechanics, says Eriador.

World Dream Tour managed to do it. TeamLiquid Tour did it. And of course the TeamLiquid StarLeague did it as well. Old players who have put StarCraft on the shelf return to the scene when the smell of green reach their nostrils. However, the scene has changed and the old gamers find themselves to be not as up to pace with the game as they once were.

- This is the first ladder that I am having a tough time in. The level of gamers is much higher, and I am feeling pressed to compete. I have never felt this way among foreign gamers, so it is making it a lot of fun. I hope to qualify, says Canadian player Smuft. The oldschool Protoss player made a short comeback in ESL and PGL's cooperation on the European qualifier to PGL StarCraft Open, but has since then not taken part in any big international events.

Another player we find in the ranks is Nazgul, who has a fifth place in World Cyber Games 2001 on his achievement list, plus qualifying for OnGameNet Challenge League on the first try. Nazgul is currently ranked 97th with 100-86 score.
- I haven't played competitively for a long time, and everyone is playing really well, says Nazgul. He also mentions that his key to success lies in getting to know the maps.
- I am 500 points out of the top 48, so getting to know the maps will be the most important thing, he says.

Eriador, Norwegian Random player, says that the ladder is one of the coolest he has played, and that it has been very tough. He rates the skill of C+ players as excellent players a couple of years ago.
- I think it will be difficult for me to qualify, because it will probably require a 70% win rate or a massive amount of games. B+ will probably be the cutoff point. I'm not sure if I can do that, but the ladder is one of the coolest I have played, says Eriador.
